Abu Dhabi crown prince’s Urdu, Hindi message for Pak, India PMs

Abu Dhabi, Mar 3: With the world's eyes on South Asia with the ongoing escalation between India and Pakistan - world leaders have contacted Prime Ministers of both countries to avoid conflict and maintain peace and stability in the region through dialogue - and the UAE leadership was one of the first countries to make efforts to ease tensions.

His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, had called up Pakistan PM Imran Khan and Indian PM Narendra Modi after the LoC air strikes.

Sheikh Mohamed and the two PMs exchanged talks on recent developments in the India-Pakistan arena. The CP emphasised the importance behind dealing with these worrying developments, and working towards easing tensions between the two countries, prioritising dialogue and communication between the parties.

The Abu Dhabi Crown Prince stressed the UAE's will to support positive relations between the two neighbouring countries, noting the common historical and cultural ties that brings them together.

The calls came after Khan announced the release of captured Indian pilot, Abhinandan, who is now back in India.

But, the same day, after the calls - Sheikh Mohamed tweeted messages of peace and dialogue between India and Pakistan in Hindi and Urdu, urging both sides to use wisdom in de-escalating the situation.

Tensions arose between both countries, earlier in February, after Indian Air Force claimed to have carried out air strikes across the LoC, killing over 300 militants in a terror camp in Pakistan's Balakot - who they suspected were behind the deadly Pulwama attack that claimed the lives of over 40 Indian security forces.

Pakistan denies the presence of any such camp or casualties.

Pakistan retaliated the very next day, hitting targets in India, which resulted in the capture of an Indian pilot.

Flights to Pakistan - from all over the world, including UAE - have been disrupted since after the country shut down its airspace.

New Delhi, Jun 3: India registered its highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases on Wednesday with 8,909 more cases reported in the last 24 hours, taking the country's tally to 2,07,615, while the death toll rose to 5,815 according to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry.

The number of active COVID-19 cases stood to 1,01,497 while 1,00,303 people have been cured/discharged/migrated.

According to the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, out of all the states, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases with 72,300 patients followed by Tamil Nadu with 24,586 cases.

Geneva, Jun 24: The global cumulative count of confirmed coronavirus cases is approaching nine million, with 133,326 cases recorded over the past day, the World Health Organisation (WHO) said in its daily situation report on Tuesday.

Over the past 24 hours, 3,847 people died from COVID-19 worldwide, taking the cumulative death toll to 469,587 fatalities, according to the report.

The global case total has now reached 8,993,659.

The Americas still account for the majority of cases and deaths -- 4.4 million and 224,207, respectively.

The United States remains the country with the highest count of cases and fatalities -- 2.3 million and 119,761, respectively.

Dubai, May 5: A Saudi ministerial decision issued on Monday allows companies in the private sector to reduce salaries by 40 per cent and allows termination of contracts owing to the economic hardships resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic, according to daily newspaper Al Sharq Awsat.

The new decision was still not published by the cabinet according to the newspaper.

The decision which the newspaper saw a copy of was signed by Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development to regulate the labour contract in the current period, allows employers to reduce the employees salaries by 40 percent of the actual effective wage for a period of 6 months, in proportion to the hours of work and allowing the termination of employee contract after 6 months of the COVID-19 circumstances.

The new decision has also included a provision in which the employer would be allowed to cut wages even he or she benefits from the subsidy provided by the goverment, such as those for helping pay workers wages or exemption from government fees.

The decision also stressed that employers are not allowed to terminate any employee, unless three conditions are met.

1.            First the passing of six months since the measures of salary cut has been taken

2.            Reducing pay, annual leave and exceptional leave were all used

3.            Company proves that its facing financial troubles due to the circumstances.

The memo, which goes into affect as soon as its published in the government’s official newspaper, ensures that the employee will receive his/her salary if on annual leave within the period of 6 months.
