ABVP stages protest against St. Aloysius College; demands withdrawal of autonomous status

Mangalore, June 20: Demanding the Education Department to take action against the management of city based St Aloysius College for allegedly harassing students, the activists of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad on Wednesday staged a demonstration.

The protesters, who gathered in front of the entrance gate of St Aloysius Pre University College holding saffron flags at around 11:00 am, shouted slogans against 'aggressive policies' of the College management.

Addressing the protesters, ABVP State Secretary Ramesh K said that the College has violated the rules and regulations in many cases.

Alleging the College of harassing innocent students for trivial reasons under the pretext of 'maintaining discipline', he said that the College Principal had stopped students from taking part in anti-corruption protest in support of Anna Hazare. “When the patriot students took part in the protest, the Principal identified them on video clippings and took strict action against them”, he said.

He also said that the College did not even hesitate to award an unsatisfactory conduct certificate to one J K Bindu Madav Tilak, who was pursuing his second PUC in academic year 2011-12. “Though he was a good student and used to promptly attend his classes, the College wanted to punish him for being an ABVP activist”, he said.

He demanded that the unsatisfactory conduct certificate given to students must be corrected immediately and students who are suffering without their degree, because of the mistake of the College must be given justice immediately.

He also said that the College ran a fake course without obtaining the permission from the University, charging lakhs of rupees as fees from students and has been denying them their degree.

The demands of the protesters also included that the Autonomous status granted to St Aloysius College by the Mangalore University should be revoked.

"The college started mass communication and media studies (MCMS) and MS software technology courses without obtaining permission from Mangalore University. Future of students who studied these courses is uncertain as the university has not issued degree certificates to them. We request the government to provide justice to those students and withdraw the autonomous status awarded to the college," Ramesh said.

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar along with Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday visited Kempegowda International airport for inspection of the screening facility as over 10,000 people from Karnataka stranded in other countries are scheduled to arrive in the state. 

Sudhakar said all safety measures have been taken for the screening and quarantine of all passengers in hotels, hostels, and school buildings.

He appealed to local residents not to panic as adequate safety measures are being taken to prevent any spread of COVID-19 infection.

Bengaluru, Apr 21: Hardline BJP leader and Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, who had deleted some of his old sexist tweets while contesting for Lok Sabha polls, yesterday deleted deleted his ugly remarks against Arab woman after it went viral and triggered sharp response from  many quarters, including from the Arab world.

In 2015, before Surya became an MP, he had said in a tweet, "95% of Arab women have never had an orgasm in the last few hundred years! Every mother has produced kids as an act of sex and not love. @Tarek Fatah."

The old tweet was picked up some influential members in the Arab community. Many intellectuals and various members of the royal families too have over the past few days condemned the attacks on Muslims in India and called out instances on Islamophobia. They have been highlighting derogatory comments about the Arab community purportedly made by supporters of the ruling BJP. It was then that a few found that even present day recognised leaders like Tejasvi had made similar comments in the past.

As the outrage grew, Tejasvi deleted the old tweet. A lot of BJP supporters on Twitter then started pointing out that Tejasvi Surya had merely quoted Canadian journalist Tareh Fatah, known for his anti-Islam comments. But by then someone had archived the tweet and Tejasvi's response to it in 2015.

In a thread to the same tweet, responding to criticism, Surya had said that these were not his opinion but attributed to Tarek Fatah. He also said that he agrees with Fateh's position that 'Islamofascism was a threat to all civilsations'.

Surya could not be reached for a comment.

However, a source close to Surya, said, "This is a 2015 tweet where Tejasvi Surya was quoting Tarek Fatah from an interview. It is being wrongly attributed to him with malicious intent. The main issue being addressed in the interview was about the barbaric and inhuman practice of genital mutilation of women. If there's any person to comment on it, it has to be Tarek Fatah."

Tejasvi Surya had landed in a similar controversy soon after his nomination as a candidate just ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Surya could not be reached for a comment.

The Congress also stepped in to criticise Surya and the BJP, national spokesperson Sanjay Jha said in a tweet, “The BJP gives tickets to Pragya Singh Thakur and #TejasviSurya etc because it helps popularise their hardline bigoted political profile. But the chickens usually come home to roost. Today, India stands embarrassed, humiliated.”

This fellow from the bottom to now educted and trained in rss organization  and in their school. And he was nomnated by the terror rss HQ only to ignite  terror and communal activity and  not form any social work or record. He was elected by WVM poeer and not by peoples choice. One or th other day EVM  secracy will be unlocked  thenall these chaddi Dhaari will be side lined and vanished by the peace loving  PATRIOT Indians.

one of my hindu friend who is with me from childhood 20 years recently supported CAA and NRC and we divide, till then i never thought that he was like this, i supported him finiancially in all help...

 

INDIA is belog to muslim first then to hindus, we are the front runner of indian independence,

 

so all muslim community first support his community either in job, money, help etc...for them they have their BJP & RSS.

 

Now in saudi & UAE they annonced that any Hindutva militen who is spreading against muslim & islam sitiing in GCC must be reoported without any delay.

Bengaluru, May 6: More than a month after international flights have been barred, Karnataka government is preparing to quarantine all 10,823 of the state''s people poised to return home from overseas amid the Covid pandemic, an official said on Tuesday.

"The state has planned to quarantine all 10,823 passengers coming back to Karnataka. The quarantine guidelines framed as below would be applicable," said Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey in a statement.

According to the Government of India, 10,823 Karnataka residents have been stranded abroad by April 30, comprising 4,408 tourists, 3,074 students, 2,784 migrants and professionals and 557 ship crew.

Out of the 10,823 people, the state government is expecting 6,100 to return early as the government has decided to allow Indians stuck abroad to return.

"All the passengers arriving at points of entry (airports and seaports) will be compulsorily screened for symptoms of Covid-19," said Pandey.

Point of entry screening will include self-reporting form verification, thermal screening, pulse oximeter reading, briefing with instructions, categorisation, stamping for some and downloading of Aarogya Setu, Quarantine Watch and Apthamitra apps.

Arriving passengers are also required to declare existing comorbidities such hypertension, diabetes, asthma or any lung disease, organ transplantations, cancer, tuberculosis and other ailments.

Passengers will be categorised into three groups: Category A (symptomatic on arrival), Category B (asymptomatic with co-morbidity or aged above 60 years) and Category C (rest of asymptomatic passengers).

Depending on the category into which the people fall, their quarantine place and time will be determined.

Category A arrivals will be subjected to institutional quarantine for a fortnight, Category B one week quarantine at a hotel or hostel, followed by another week at home, and Category C home quarantine for a fortnight.

Karnataka government is making elaborate arrangements and logistical means, deploying healthcare, police and several other departments into action to handle the huge influx of Kannadigas and state residents.

Pandey has issued a 21-page elaborate standard operating procedure (SOP) guidelines on how to face the international returnees.
