ABVP wins key seats in college union polls

abvpKasaragod, Oct 29: After a span of 12 years, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) has won crucial seats in the Kannur University Union elections held at Govinda Pai Memorial Government College at Manjeswaram on Friday.

The seats the party won included those of the chairman, vice chairman, general secretary, joint secretary, and fine arts secretary.

The ABVP won 11 of the 16 seats for which elections were held on Friday.

The ABVP had won five seats in 2013, including that of the chairman in the elections to the college union at Manjeswaram, which had sizeable Kannada speaking linguistic minorities.

Belagavi, Jan 16: Six Poachers were arrested in two different cases at Gollahalli forest range in Kittur section in the district on Thursday.

The arrested were identified as Bharmesh alias Bharmappa Hanumant Bhajantri, Mallesh Hanumant Bhajantri residents of Budanakatti in Bailahongal Taluk.

Another alleged accused Yuvraj Basappa Bhajantri managed to escape.

Bengaluru, April 3: Central Crime Branch (CCB) Bengaluru has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illicit liquor.

The probe team also allegedly seized bottles worth Rs 1.25 lakhs from their possession on Thursday.

A case has been registered against the accused and investigation into the matter is underway, Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police informed news agency.

More details in this regard are awaited.

One Lakh towards Covid-19 relief.

Vilas Kumar and Treasurer Sri Maroor Shashidhar Pai handed over two cheques for Rs. 50,000/- each favouring ‘PM Cares’ – the Prime Minister’s Covid-l9 Relief Fund and ‘Chief Minister Relief Fund Covid-l9’ of Karnataka respectively to Smt. Sindhu B. Rupesh, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of D. K. District at her office in Mangalore on Monday, May 4, 2020.
