Accident death case: Absconding accused held at Mangaluru Airport

Mangaluru, Jul 7: A man wanted in connection with an accident death case registered in Mangaluru North Traffic police station limits in 2014, was arrested on Thursday at Mangaluru International Airport.held

The accused has been identified as Mohammad Nazeer, a resident of Mulki in Manglauru taluk.

He was detained at the airport based on a look out circular (LoC) issued by the police t0 the immigration authorities, Hanumantharaya, deputy commissioner of police (crime and traffic) said. The LoC was issued a year ago.

The accused had left the country while the trial against him was underway and had not responded to court warrants to stand trial, the DCP said adding police subsequently issued the LoC against Mohammad Nazeer since the case was long pending in the court.

"Personnel of Bajpe police station nabbed the accused and produced him before the court, which remanded him in to judicial custody," Hanumantharaya said adding the court will since resume the trial.

New Delhi, Jan 19: Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal on Sunday asserted that every state assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek the amended Citizenship Act's withdrawal, but if the law is declared constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it.

His remarks came a day after he had said there is no way a state can deny the implementation of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) when it is already passed by the Parliament.

"I believe the CAA is unconstitutional. Every State Assembly has the constitutional right to pass a resolution and seek its withdrawal. When and if the law is declared to be constitutional by the Supreme Court then it will be problematic to oppose it. The fight must go on!" Sibal said in a tweet.

His remarks on the CAA at the Kerala Literature Festival (KLF) on Saturday had caused a flutter as several non-BJP governments, including Kerala, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal and Maharashtra, have voiced their disagreement with the CAA as well as National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).

"If the CAA is passed no state can say 'I will not implement it'. It is not possible and is unconstitutional. You can oppose it, you can pass a resolution in the Assembly and ask the central government to withdraw it.

"But constitutionally saying that I won't implement, it is going to be problematic and going to create more difficulties," said the former minister of law and justice.

Bengaluru, Jun 20: Former Chief Minister and Congress Legislative Party leader Siddaramaiah has slammed BJP leader and former Congress MP and MLA H Vishwanath for blaming him for not getting MLC ticket.

Siddaramaiah said, "H Vishwanath is neither a fool nor intelligent, that's why he's blaming me for not getting ticket. He is in BJP and I'm in congress how will I influence his ticket."

He also slammed Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa, "Yediyurappa is toothless to speak to PM and asking for funds which need to be allotted to Karnataka including 5,049 crores, which 15th finance Commission suggested."

"No pro-people schemes must be stopped including Indira canteen, Yediyurappa thinks Indira canteen will bring good name to me that's why this government is trying to stop it," he added.

He was speaking after a protest organised at Mysuru against the hike in fuel prices.

Mysuru, Aug 1: A young covid-19 warrior and activist has become the latest victim of novel coronavirus in Karnataka’s Mysuru district. 

The deceased is Khaleel ur Rahman (27), who was the office manager at Farooqia College of Pharmacy. 

During Covid-19 lockdown, he was working as a volunteer and was part of Mysuru City Corporation team also which is involved in the covid related work. 

Khaleel was also part of the team formed by IAS officer P Manivannan, who led the crucial Covid-19 relief efforts across Karnataka. He was also an activist of Social Democratic Party of India.

During the lockdown, he was distributing groceries and other necessary things among poor and migrants in Mysuru. 

Recently he fell ill and admitted to a private hospital. He was suffering from breathing difficulties. He breathed his last in the hospital without responding to any treatment.
