Bengaluru, Jan 27: Noted Kannada actor Chandrashekhar passed away in the wee hours of Saturday in Canada. 63-year-old artist is survived by his mother, wife and a daughter. Sources said, he had suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

Chandrashekhar had made his on-screen debut as a child artist, and got into fame as a lead actor in Edakallu Guddadamele, directed by Putanna Kanagal. The success of the film was such that 'Edakallu Guddadamele' became his first name, and he became famous as Edakallu Guddadamele Chandrashekhar.

After his marriage, Chandrashekhar moved to Canada and started working with the Indian High Commission as a visa officer.

Chandrashekhar made his debut as a director with Poorvapara, which became the first Kannada movie to be screened in Toronto Film Festival. He was last seen in the Kannada movie 'Chakravarthy' starring Challenging Star Darshan.

His daughter Tanya said he was in Bengaluru and had gone back to Canada just 10 days ago. “Yesterday night I spoke to him when he was shifted to a hospital. The family is yet to decide whether the body will be brought to Bengaluru or the last rites conducted in Canada.

Bengaluru, Feb 12: Mohammed Nalapad, the rogue son of Karnataka Congress leader NA Harris, who is out on bail in a 2018 case of him bashing up a man at a pub, has now rammed his luxury car into vehicles, injuring four people on Bengaluru road.

The incident took place on Sunday on the Ballari Road where Nalapad was rash driving his car. The car hit a biker and an autorickshaw, injuring four people. He immediately got off his car and fled riding a friend's car.

The biker has suffered a fracture in his leg and is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

According to police, soon after the accident a man appeared before police to claim responsibility for the accident.

Ravikante Gowde, Joint Commissioner of Police said, "A man named Balakrishna came to surrender as the one who was driving the car. Investigation has, however, showed that it was Nalapad who was driving when he met with the accident. The investigating officer has issued him a notice to appear before the police."

BJP spokesperson S Prakash has said, "A case under the Goonda Act should be filed against Nalapad and the court should take cognisance of this and cancel his bail. The father has no control over son. He is a serial offender who is harming the public on a repeated basis."

Nalapad was earlier arrested in 2018 in the Bengaluru pub incident in which he and his associate bashed up the son of a prominent businessman in the city. Nalapad Harris is out on bail after remaining in judicial custody for three months in the case of attempt to murder after the 2018 midnight brawl.

Mangaluru, May 26: In the wake of mounting case of covid-19 in the coastal Karnataka, the police department has decided to sanitise the police stations in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.

The superintendents of police in both the districts have been instructed to take necessary steps for sanitisation of stations in a phased manner, according to Devajyoti Ray, inspector-general of police (Western Range).

Meanwhile, the top cops of Uttara Kannada and Chikkamagaluru that forms part of the Western Range have been asked to take a call on doing so. “Hebri police station in Udupi was sanitised as part of this process and not because of any positive case emerging from staff there,” he said.

Allaying fears over stations being sealed down over positive case among station staff, Karnataka police chief Praveen Sood said this is a temporary measure and stations do not become non-functional.

“It is just that, for a mandated period police station will function from different premise when the station is being sanitised,” he said.

Noting that policemen are quarantined as precautionary measure, he said additional staff can be drafted from other stations or districts if need for it arises.
