Mangaluru, May 3: The untimely death of this young cancer patient, who was known as a “motivator”, has come as a shock and source of great sadness for his friends and well wishers across Dakshina Kannada and other parts of Karnataka.

Abdul Jabbar aka Abdul Jabbar Ponnodi, who was suffering from a cancer for past 11 years, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city at around 12 a.m. on Thursday. He is survived by his parents, a brother and three sisters.

Hailing from a poor family in Ponnodi village near BC Road in Batnwal taluk of the coastal district, Abdul Jabbar in spite of his illness and unbearable pain in his body, had become an inspiration for many.

Abdul Khader Kukkila, editor of Sanmaarga Kannada weekly, who also happens to be one of the co-brothers of Abdul Jabbar, says that though the Big C didn’t allow the latter even to breathe properly, he used to console other cancer patients and instil courage and confidence in them.

“He married my sister-in-law nearly one and a half years ago. Though the cancer had almost destroyed him, he tried his best to lead a normal life in spite of all his pains. He was talkative and friendly with all. One of his sisters recently completed MBBS thanks to his encouragement,” says Mr Kukkila.

“Cancer is mere a bodily disease. It should be restricted to the body and not the mind...” This was the reply given by the brave Abdul Jabbar to his well wishers when they questioned his decision to act in a movie to create awareness about caner a few months ago after his doctors dropped sufficient hints that he may not live beyond six months.

Abdul Jabbar had recently launched a free YouTube channel, ‘Kannada gadgets’ to share his knowledge with Kannadigas about the features modern gadgets, problems faced by people while operating them and simple solutions.

Kannada writer and director Yogesh Master had hastened to launch the shooting of his new flick Hamasageete which talks about the story of cancer survivors, after realising that Abdul Jababr’s days were numbered.

“I wanted to cast Abdul Jabbar because he’s the real hero,” says Yogesh Master, who had come to know about the “rare fighter” through Facebook. “He was hardworking and never tried to gain sympathy,” the director was quoted as saying by a news paper.

Chennai, July 27: Multi-lingual actress Vijayalakshmi, who attempted suicide yesterday, alleging harassment and bullying by followers of Naam Thamizhar party leader Seeman and Panankattu Padai’s Hari Nadar, is recuperating at a hospital in Chennai.

Vijayalakshmi is known for films like Friends and Boss Engira Baskaran. She recently made headlines for speaking against Seeman and the torture she was allegedly facing from the actor-turned-politician and his party.

In the video which was uploaded on Sunday evening, Vijayalakshmi said, “This is my last video and I have been in tremendous stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his partymen. I tried my level best to survive all these days because of my mother and sister, but I have been humiliated in the media by Harinadar recently.”

She added, “I would like to tell fans who are watching the video just because I was born in Karnataka, Seeman has tortured me a lot. As a woman, I have put up with it to my highest capabilities. I won’t be able handle the pressure anymore. I am from the Pillai community, the same community LTTE leader Prabhakaran is part of. Prabhakaran is the only reason Seeman is who he is today, but now he has been harassing me on social media continuously. You slut shamed me to make me feel the pain and it is up to me to decide on what to do after facing such insults from you. I request my fans not to let Seeman get away from this case. He should never get anticipatory bail. My death should be a big eye-opener to everyone. I don’t want to be a slave to anybody.”

Mangaluru, June 21: A gang of miscreants intercepted a goods auto-rickshaw which was legally transporting beef from an abattoir to market and attacked its driver in heart of the city this morning.

The attack comes exactly a week after a gang of Bajrang Dal miscreants thrashed a cattle trader at Urwa while legally transporting four buffalos to Kudroli abattoir on June 13.

Today, a person identified as Abdul Rasheed was transporting around 200 kilograms of beef from Kudroli abattoir to Kankanady market.

Meanwhile, miscreants began to chase beef laden vehicle and managed to waylay it near Highland Hospital. They thrashed Abdul Rasheed and poured kerosene on the beef besides damaging the vehicle.

The miscreants fled in their car and motorbikes after passersby began to gather.

Dear DC Dr. Harsha, we want to know if you will take strict action on these anti nationals / rowdis / day robbers / terrorists who ransacked auto + beaten the auto driwer and stolen Rs. 10,000 from him though he was legally transporting the meat.   They same terrorists are involved in transporting live animals to beef export houses in Gujrat owned by Brahmins / Jains.   Will you be loyal to your duty and promise.   We will see how you will handle the issue failing which you will lose our respect and we will consider you as a dramabaz and phenku.   You should follow the law and treat everyone equally.  There should not be any pity on goondas/ terrorists belonging to sangh parivar.   The terrorists who thrashed the auto driver and damaged the auto and burnt the meat by pouring kerosene are not human beings and should be treated as anti nationals + terrorists.    We hope you will discharge your duty as per the oath taken by you while accepting your post.
