Jaipur, Sep 11: After Mumbai and Rajasthan, sale of meat has now been banned in Ahmedabad during the Jain festival period of 'Paryushan'.

As per reports, the Ahmedabad Police Commissioner has ordered a ban on meat for a week.

During the ban, any kind of cattle slaughter will not be permitted in the city.

On Thursday, the BJP government in Rajasthan had imposed a ban on sale of meat during Paryushan, a festival celebrated by Shwetambar Jains.

The ban in Rajasthan will be in place on September 17 and 18. Slaughterhouses as well as meat and fish shops in the state have been ordered to remain closed on these days.

The ban in Rajasthan will also remain in force on September 27 for the festival of Anant Chaturdashi, which is celebrated by Digambar Jains.

Earlier, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), ruled by the BJP, had announced a ban on sale of meat, including mutton and chicken, for four days in the country's financial capital.

However, the MNS and Shiv Sena, which had severely criticised the BMC order, yesterday defied the ban and protested by selling meat at several locations.

Lucknow, May 3:Holding the Tablighi Jamaat responsible for the spread of COVID-19, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday said that being infected with a virus is not a crime but to hide it is definitely a crime.

Speaking at a programme of a news channel, Adityanath said, "The role of Tablighi Jamaat was most condemnable. To get a disease is not a crime but to hide a disease which is infectious is definitely a crime. And this crime has been done by those associated with the Tablighi Jamaat."

"In Uttar Pradesh and other places where the spread of the coronavirus has been seen, Tablighi Jamaat is behind it. Had they not hidden the disease and went about like its carriers, then perhaps we would have controlled the coronavirus outbreak to a large extend," he said.

The chief minister said action would be taken against them for the "crime that they have committed".

A Tablighi Jamaat congregation in Delhi in March turned out to be a major source of COVID-19 cases, with those who attended the meet returned home in different parts of the country after being infected with the deadly virus.

New Delhi, Jan 11: Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram on Friday said that he has never seen innocents like the Indian people, who believe the claims made by the government on the implementation of its programmes. The former Union Minister, addressing a literary event, said, "I have never seen innocents like the Indian people. If something appears on print (and named two newspapers also), we believe it. We believe anything."

Claims like all villages having been electrified in the country and toilets built for 99 per cent of families in India were being believed, he said.

Similar was the case of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, (Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana or PM-JAY is a flagship health care scheme of the Centre), he alleged.

Stating that his Delhi-based driver's father had to get a surgery done under the scheme, he said, however, it could not be performed.

"I asked him (car driver) if he had the Ayushman card and he showed a card and I told him to take it (to hospital). In hospital after hospital, they said they were not aware of anything like that (Ayushman scheme). But we believe that the Ayushman scheme has come to the whole of India," he said.

Further, he said "we believe that for any disease, treatment will be done (indicating the Ayushman scheme) without shelling out money. We are being innocents."

Many news items and data were contrary to the truth, he added.
