AGS to implement AFC technology for Bengaluru Metro

Bengaluru, Sep 20: AGS Transact Technologies Limited (AGSTTL) today announced that it will manage end-to-end automatic fare collection (AFC) for Bengaluru Metro.

The AFC system will be implemented across 61 new stations in phase II over the period of three years. The company will manage supply, installation as well as maintenance at these metro stations.

The contract is won by the consortium of AGSTTL along with MSI Global, wholly owned subsidiary of the Land Transport Authority (LTA) of Singapore as the technology partner. Currently, there are 40 live stations of Bangalore metro with approx. 4 lakh transactions per day. In the current phase, token and paper tickets are being issued. Subsequently, QR code-based tickets will be introduced for smartphone users and plans are also to introduce national common mobility card (one nation one card) in the phase II, a company release said here on Friday.

AGSTTL forayed into the transit business in 2016. It currently manages AFC system for the Punjab Bus Metro Society at Amritsar. Through its AFC and Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) offerings, AGSTTL aims to bring together effective models of ticketing, payment and transparency to the travel infrastructure systems.

Mangaluru, July 18: A man and his son have been arrested for torturing an elderly woman in Savanalu under Belthangady police station limits in Dakshina Kannada. 

The arrest came after a video clip of the duo beating the woman went viral on social media.

According to police, the duo has been identified as the woman’s son Srinivas Shetty and her grandson Pradeep Shetty.

The accused had allegedly been torturing the 70-year-old ailing woman and the video of the same has gone viral on social media.

The police have booked a suo moto case under Indian Penal Code 323, 504 and section 24 of Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.

Mangaluru/Mysuru, May 19: Though the Karnataka government permitted the private buses, operators in Dakshina Kannada district have decided not to operate buses until May end. In Mysuru district too the private buses remained off the roads.

Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners’ Association President Dilraj Alva said “Technically, private bus operators are not able to operate services as all of us have surrendered our permits. If we start services we will have to pay the tax for entire month. Hence, we have decided to resume bus services from June 1.”

The private buses had suspended their services since March 24.

In addition, bus owners also have two more demands which the state government needs to consider on priority, he said.

“We have requested the government to exempt private buses from paying tax for the next six months. We were not plying buses during lockdown and it will be tough for us in the next three months to operate as per new conditions.”

“The government has allowed only 30 persons in each bus to maintain social distancing. In addition, we have been urging the state government for bus fare revision since 2013. The government has revised the bus fares of KSRTC twice after that,” Alva said adding that bus owners will be meeting Mangaluru RTO on Tuesday.
