Air India flight flies with landing gear out; 2 women pilots taken off duty

Mumbai, Jul 25: Air India has derostered two women pilots as they forgot to retract the landing gear of a city- bound flight after take off from Kolkata last week, according to airline officials. Faced with low fuel for the onward journey, the flight was diverted to Nagpur, where it made a safe landing. The incident involving Kolkata-Mumbai flight — that was carrying nearly 100 passengers — happened on July 22. airindia

Officials said the pilots did not retract the landing gear after take-off. Following the incident, the two women pilots have been derostered and the initial probe report has also been submitted to the executives concerned, they added. “The pilots were derostered after the incident was reported. Investigation is on,” Air India spokesperson Dhananjay Kumar said.

Landing gear is deployed at the time of landing and take off. Soon after a plane takes off, the landing gear is retracted but in this particular instance, the pilots concerned failed to retract it. As the landing gear of the aircraft was not retracted, it resulted in increased fuel consumption.

SIT questions former underworld don Muthappa Rai over Ravi Poojary

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Special Investigating Team (SIT), headed by Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime), Sandeep Patil, subjected former underworld don turned social activist Muthappa Rai in connection with gangster and underworld don Ravi Poojary's criminal cases.

Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) said that the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Venugopal and police inspector Bulletin have questioned Rai in his house for more than two hours about Ravi Poojary case.

Muthappa Rai was allegedly one of the accused in builder Subbaraju murder case. They both were allegedly close in the initial days and they were like a team, said a senior officer. So Rai was questioned about their connection. Rai, who reformed himself many years ago, is into business and social service at present.

Gold worth Rs 20 lakh seized from Dubai-Kannur repatriation flight passenger

Kannur, Jun 21: Customs sleuths on Sunday seized 432 grams of gold worth around Rs 20 lakh from a passenger who arrived at Kannur International Airport from Dubai in Fly Dubai flight, scheduled under Vande Bharat Mission.

Customs Assistant Commissioner E Vikas-led team seized the smuggled gold from the passenger Usman of Malappuram district and detained him, sources said.

The seized gold was kept in his inner-wear.
