Led by the local leaders of the Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), the protesters shouted slogans against the Government for handing over the scheme to organisations such as ISKCON, Adyama Chetana and various religious maths. The protesters said they would continue the strike till their demands are met.
Speaking on the occasion, CITU leader Sunil Kumar Bajal said that ever since the Government has handed over the supply of food under the Akshara Dasoha scheme to the Iskcon, thousands of women have been rendered jobless.
He also demanded the government to take legal action against Iskcon for its 'corruption'.
