Akshay Kumar is an underrated actor: Ileana D'Cruz

Mumbai, May 29: Actress Ileana D'Cruz feels Akshay Kumar is an underrated actor despite having a huge body of work.

Ileana has teamed up with the "Baby" actor for the time for the upcoming film "Rustom" and describes the experience of working with him as "amazing".

Ileana"Working with Akshay was a revelation. I wasn't expecting it to be the way it did. It was amazing. I've watched mainly his comedy films and I love him in that," Ileana said.

"Akshay has done so many different genre of films. He has such an amazing graph. But he is one of the most underrated actors I've worked with. People talk about his comic timing, action status, but he is brilliant over all," she added.

The 28-year-old "Barfi" star has worked with A-listers like Ranbir Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Saif Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan in the past.

But it was the instant bonding with Akshay that surprised her during the shoot."Every scene we had was so beautiful. There was such a connect, I told him 'it is shocking I've never had it with any co-star'. We do look great on screen."

Directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, "Rustom" is reportedly based on the 1959 Nanavati case where naval officer Kavas Maneckshaw Nanavati was tried for the murder of his wife's lover, Prem Ahuja.

Akshay, 48, plays a Naval officer in the film while Ileana will be seen as his wife. She says the relationship which they explore is something unique.

"It's a very emotional beautiful movie. I've never seen the kind of relationship we have in the film in any other movie recently. I don't think this is something even Akshay has played before. I am exited," Ileana said.

Even though the actress is now "excited and nervous", Ileana wasn't too keen to go for the narration of the script earlier.

"When I went into the meeting I wasn't so excited. I said to myself I'll give them two hours, I don't know how will it turn out. Then, I listened to the first half and I was all set. It had me hooked from the beginning."

The "Main Tera Hero" actress is also praise for Desai, who previously helmed "1920 London". "Rustom" is scheduled to release on Aug 12.
