Ali Fazal's international film on immigration to release in US

Mumbai, Feb 23: Ali Fazal is having the time of his life with a crop of great films up for release. The tall actor is currently in India shooting for his most awaited sequel ‘Fukrey Returns’.

AliFazalWhile he has been busy with his film shoot, one of his international collaboration, ‘For Here Or To Go’ is believed to soon be releasing in America. The film was shot two years back and has Ali essaying the lead role set against the backdrop of 2008 recession and a series of comedy events that show the harsh reality of immigration issues faced by thousands of people in the US.

The actor will be seen as an aspiring candidate for a lucrative job offer in the Silicon Valley, only to find himself in a lurk when his job position is dissolved owing to the recession. The film reveals a completely new concept in itself and it will have its release in the US in end of March.

It's a mere confidence the film coming out at a time when the immigration issue has become a global conversation owing to the reforms in laws in the US currently which has left the world in a divided debate of what is right and what isn't. The film had premiered last year at the MAMI film festival and is soon to also see a release in India this year.

When asked about it, he said, "This issue of visa and immigrations for several has been there right from the beginning and has always been sort of simmering and it was a great angle to bring this issue in front of every individual and currently, time has just been so relatable and made this film even more connective to audiences which also actually has a fun element in the narrative. This movie is made from true events and the producer brought this idea to me and I totally loved it and that is when I just said yes to this film. I hope audiences connect to it and love to this one too and find it relevant."

Mumbai, May 17: TV actor Manmeet Grewal, who worked on shows like "Aadat Se Majboor" and "Kuldeepak", committed suicide after struggling with dwindling finances amid lockdown, family friend-producer Manjit Singh Rajput said.

Grewal, who was originally from Punjab, hanged himself on Friday night at his Kharghar residence here where he lived with his wife. He was 32.

Rajput, who had known Grewal for nearly seven years, said the actor was facing "financial crisis" and wasn't able to earn due to the lockdown. 

"He was going through a major financial issue and he was also in depression. The added pressure of not being able to repay loans amid this (no work phase) got to him. His wife is completely shocked and devastated," Rajput told PTI.

The producer said last rites of the actor were performed on Saturday. 

Grewal was working on projects like a webseries and some commercials, which were put on hold due to the nationwide lockdown amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Jan 2: A young filmmaker was allegedly assaulted by an acquaintance during an argument over CAA-NRC in neighbouring Salt Lake City, police said on Wednesday.

The police have arrested the accused following a complaint by the filmmaker.

According to a senior police officer, the argument over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC) began following a social media post by the filmmaker.

The accused allegedly went to the house of the filmmaker on Monday night and picked up an argument, which led to a scuffle.

"During the scuffle, the accused attacked the filmmaker with a knife," the senior police officer said, adding that the accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.

New Delhi, Feb 25: The Delhi High Court on Tuesday gave time to Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to seek instructions on travel ban imposed on comedian Kunal Kamra.

Kamra approached the court against IndiGo which suspended him from flying with the airlines for a period of six months. Other airlines had also followed the suit in pursuance to this.

Justice Naveen Chawla said that the regulatory body should not have certified actions of airlines other than IndiGo to ban Kamra without conducting inquiry. The matter will now be heard on February 27.

Last month, IndiGo had barred the stand-up comedian for six months from using its services for allegedly portraying "unacceptable behaviour" onboard its flight.

The airline claimed that Kamra, while travelling on a Mumbai-Lucknow IndiGo flight, provoked a TV news anchor by asking questions over his news presentation style.
