Hampi, Feb 8: Days after a video footage showing miscreants vandalising ancient pillars at the world heritage site in Hampi, went viral on social media the Ballari district police have arrested all four persons involved in the case.
Though the police have not officially announced the names of the miscreants, sources within the department told coastaldigest.com that the arrested are Ayush Sahu (24), Raja Babu (21), Raj Aryan (22) and Rajesh Choudhary (24).
With this the hate campaign against Muslims on social media in connection with the incident has come to an end. Several Hindutva outfit leaders had blamed Muslims for the vandalism.
The vandalism caused outrage both online and offline and public demanded arrest of culprits and sought protection to the world heritage site.
Ballari Superintendent of Police Arun Ranga Rajan said that out of the four youths, one is from Madhya Pradesh and three are from Bihar who have settled in Bengaluru.
Among the four accused, one worked for HAL, and others include a digital marketer, engineering student and ITI graduate in search of a job.
