All of a sudden, NIA discovers Purohit's secret letter' against right-wing terror

New Delhi, Apr 27: In a fresh twist to the right-wing terror case saga, a 'secret' letter purportedly written by 2008 Malegaon blast accused Lt Colonel Srikant Purohit on October 15, 2008 has fallen into the hands of NIA Investigator. In this, Purohit ironically red flags the emergence of rightwing radical groups to his superiors in Army's Military intelligence wing, warning that this trend could even lead to "communal clashes".

purohith1 The letter, which has been accessed by ET, was sent a couple of weeks after the second Malegaon blasts. Here Purohit refers to "An A-2 source", who has "provided some valuable information with regard to the right-wing activities in Maharashtra and Gujarat."

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said the matter is still under probe but senior officials of the agency believe that the 'input' may have been generated as an "afterthought".

Purohit was arrested by Maharashtra ATS on November 5, 2008 and chargesheeted subsequently along with Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and nine others. In a twopage letter, Purohit also names senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar and says 'he has established sufficient influence over cadres of ABVP and ex-ABVP radical cadres." Indresh had denied all the allegations.

Under the head 'assessment', Purohit tries to mitigate the damage to RSS and writes, "Subversion in an organization like RSS would facilitate actions like one which took place in Gujarat/Malegaon and would further lead to communal clashes which would in turn facilitate fifth columnist, SIMI/IM activists and supporters to go all out in action oriented activities. It may lead to many separatist movements and blame would go onto organization like RSS."

It further states, "One of such associates( of Indresh)—MrPJoshiwasassassinated in Dewas on 29-30, 2007 by unidentified killers. This individual was supposedly involved in the crude bomb blast in Ajmer Sharif Shrine. When he died/was killed, a ticket to Gujarat was foundonhisbody. Theotherpersonwho is operating in that area is one lady by name of Pragya Singh.

Now devotees in Karnataka can meet their 'gods' online as govt mulls live streaming of pujas, sevas

Bengaluru, May 21: With temples yet to open for devotees as coronavirus restrictions are in place, the Karnataka government is preparing for live streaming of sevas (service) and poojas offered to deities at temples that comes under the state's Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department.

The government has also decided to develop an app and web-based software with an intention to provide information to devotees regarding temples, also to facilitate online donations and advance booking for various sevas offered there.

Regarding online live streaming, Commissioner of the Hindu Religious Institutions and Charitable Endowment Department has written to the Deputy Commissioners of all the districts and Executive Officers seeking a list of temples that comes under their jurisdiction where such facility can be provided.

"It has been intended to do online live streaming of sevas and pooja rituals at temples that come under the department in the backdrop of COVID-19 crisis. In this regard it is requested to provide a list of temples where online live facility can be provided to devotees, by abiding the traditions and practices of the temple," the letter said.

Though the temples are holding daily poojas and rituals, they are not open to public for now, with COVID-19 induced lockdown restrictions in place.

Officials had recently had stated that the department was planning to have a standard operating procedure (SOP) in place, that needs to be followed at temples in a post lockdown scenario, once they are opened for the public.

There are over 34,000 temples in the state that come under the department.

Meanwhile, in another letter to DCs of 15 districts, also Executive officers and administrators of 'A' grade temples, aimed at development of app and web-based software, the Commissioner has sought information regarding sevas offered at temples in their jurisdictions and those sevas for which option can be provided for devotees to do advance booking.

Throat swabs of Mudigere doctor, 28 contacts test covid-19 negative

Mudigre, May 23: The throat swab sample of a Primary Health Care doctor at Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district tested negative for COVID-19.

It was wrongly tested positive for COVID-19 on May 19, clarified DC Dr Bagadi Gautham.

The doctor's throat swab was tested again in Shivamogga and Hassan labs where it has tested negative. He will be discharged from hospital, said the DC.

All the 28 contacts of the doctor too tested negative.

A total of 485 primary contacts and 961 secondary contacts of the doctor were quarantined after the throat swab of the doctor was tested positive. All the contacts who have been quarantined will be sent back home from quarantine centres, added DC.

Here's the first phase flight plan for return of Indian nationals stranded abroad

Newsroom, May 5: Following the union government's nod, preparations are afoot to bring back Indian nationals stranded abroad from May 7 onwards.

According to sources, in the first phase from May 7- 14, the government would allow more than 60 “non-scheduled, commercial” flights to operate from about 12 countries to India to bring back 15,000 citizens. At least half of those flights will be from the Gulf region, including UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait and Oman, while the rest would bring passengers from the U.S., the U.K., Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines and Bangladesh.

The flights would be spread over 10 States identified as having the largest numbers to return, with Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Delhi (NCR) receiving the maximum number of flights.

A meeting held at the Ministry of Civil Aviation looked specifically at flights, mainly operated by Air India, while it awaits a final plan from countries where Indians need to be airlifted from. The first flights planned at present are from Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Riyadh and Doha, flying directly to Kozhikode and Kochi.

While the full estimate of Indians needing to return home could cross ten lakhs (a million), with more than two lakhs having registered to return from the UAE alone, officials said their return would be “prioritised and staggered”.
