Mangaluru, Jun 28: Opposing the new guidelines issued by the district administration for vehicles ferrying schoolchildren in the wake of the death of 8 students in Kundapur, Dakshina Kannada District School Vehicle Drivers' Association staged a protest in front of the deputy commissioner's office in the city on Tuesday.

The protesters not only opposed the orders by the district administration to convert their vehicles to yellow board, but also demanded official permission to carry more school children in small vehicles.

Speaking on the occasion CITU district secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal said owners and drivers of vehicles are ferrying schoolchildren to eke out a living. Once the vehicle is converted to yellow, it cannot be used for any other purpose.

"Instead of a yellow board, a board displaying 'On School Duty' could be hung over the vehicles during duty hours," he said.

He slammed the police department and the RTO for imposing fine on overcrowded school vehicles and alleged that autorickshaws and vans carrying children well within the norms were also fined.

"It is rather strange that the administration wakes up only when there is an accident," he said, in an apparent reference to the move by the administration to issue new guidelines in the wake the recent Trasi accident that claimed lives of eight schoolchildren.

The protesters said the number of schoolchildren accommodated in a vehicle should be fixed “scientifically”. It should be maximum 10 in auto-rickshaws, 16 in Omni van, 18 in Eeco and 35 in maxicabs, they said.

New Delhi, Jan 26: On the occasion of the 71st Republic Day, Karnataka state's tableau depicted the philosophy of Basaveshwara and the concept of Anubhava Mantapa (Centre for Experience), which was the socio-religious centre that existed in the present-day Basava Kalyana of Bidar district in Karnataka.

It is regarded as the first religious parliament in the history of mankind.

This 12th-century centre has a special significance in the history of humanity, as it represents composite culture, philosophy, spirituality, equality among other universal human values.

These values were propagated by the saint and social reformer- Basaveshwara and other sharanas- followers of Basava philosophy of the socio-religious movement.

It is significant that representatives of Anubhava Mantapa were nominated based on their spiritual attainment, regardless of caste, class and sect they belonged and thus discarded the differentiation of human beings as higher or lower, on the basis of birth, occupation and gender.

The front part of the tableau has the replica of Basaveshwara preaching his most cherished value - "Work is Worship".

For Republic Day Parade 2020, a total of 56 tableaux proposals (32 from states/UTs and 24 from Ministries/Departments) were received. Out of these, 22 were shortlisted for participation in the Republic Day Parade 2020.

Bengaluru, Jan 25: Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu on Friday, hit out at JD(S) leader HD Kumaraswamy, accusing the former Chief Minister of pursuing "vote bank" politics and advised him to move to Pakistan.

"It is better to move to Pakistan...if he shows so much love towards Pakistan, why should he live in India? He should not do dual politics like this. He wants to be fair to Pakistan and also to India," Sriramulu said.

Terming it as "double standards", the Minister said: "From so many years, you have been doing vote bank politics. You have to understand one thing...you are the son of former Prime Minister and also a former Chief Minister. By giving these type of statements, I think it will hurt the citizens of India. If you want to do vote bank politics I must suggest that it is better to leave the country."

His statement comes after Kumaraswamy took a jibe at BJP over its "obsession with Pakistan".
