‘Allowed Centre to credit Rs 2K farmers; prevented K’taka govt from releasing fund’: CM slams EC’s double standards

Udupi, Apr 8: Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Sunday said that the Election Commission was following double standards as it had allowed the Union government to credit Rs. 2,000 to the accounts of farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) but it had disallowed the State government from releasing funds for the latter’s farm loan waiver scheme.

Addressing presspersons at the Congress Bhavan here, Mr. Kumaraswamy asked was it right to block the loan waiver scheme of the State which had budgetary approval?

The Narendra Modi government had failed to provide jobs to the unemployed in the country. There had been no benefits from the demonetisation exercise taken up by the Union government to curb black money, he said. In fact, black money was still in circulation, he said. “After all how did the BJP manage to get funds to purchase Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) MLAs by offering Rs. 40 crore? Was it black money or white money?” he wondered.

BJP MPs Nalin Kumar Kateel and Shobha Karandlaje are seeking votes in the name of Mr. Modi and not on the basis of their performance, he said.

To a query, he said that the coalition government in the State would complete its five-year term. To another query, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that he had not started an inquiry against the former Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa over an audio tape controversy as the latter would start using it to portray himself as a victim.

Later, speaking at a meeting of Congress and Janata Dal (Secular) party workers here, Mr. Kumaraswamy said that the Narenddra Modi government had failed completely to provide any programmes for the uplift of the poor and Dalits in the country.

It was Mr. Modi’s hobby to speak lightly of the Opposition parties. Though Mr. Modi claimed that he had achieved in 55 months what the Congress could not in 55 years, the fact was that Mr. Modi had only inaugurated projects that had been drawn up by the previous governments at the Centre, he said.

Bengaluru, Jan 1: Former Karnataka Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah on Wednesday slammed the Centre on the issue of fare hike announcement by Indian Railways.

"Increase in Train fares is a New Year gift by Narendra Modi government to common people," Siddaramaiah tweeted.

"This will further dent the developmental prospects as Railways form a backbone of Transportation. Instead, the govt should have gifted us the values of our Constitution by upholding it," he added.
