Bengaluru, Oct 17: Former chief minister Siddaramaih has once again announced his retirement from electoral politics. The fresh announcement comes a time when the Congress is looking to absorb Siddaramaiah into a national role.

Speaking to party workers at Guledgudd town of Bagalkot district on Wednesday, he said he does not wish to contest any more elections. "I have faced 13 elections so far and after completing my five-year term as MLA, I will not contest any more elections. I am already 71 years old," he said. As part of the Congress working committee, Siddaramaiah hopes to continue working for the party.

It could be recalled here that after being elected the Chief Minister in 2013, Siddaramaiah had announced he would not contest any more elections. But in 2018 assembly polls he contested from two seats- Badami and Chamundeshwari claiming that he had to take such a decision only with the intention of preventing communal forces.

"He has already decided not to contest Lok Sabha polls. While the party would like him to contest, he is not keen. He has already conveyed his no to AICC President Rahul Gandhi," said a close aide of Siddaramaiah.

The Congress, that will begin seat-sharing discussions with the JD(S) shortly, hopes to retain the Mysuru seat. Siddaramaiah, according to many in the party, would be the ideal candidate for the seat.

Mangaluru, Mar 28: After a youth from Dakshina Kannada who tested positive for the deadly Covid-19 revealed that he had travelled by a bus, authorities have requested all his fellow passengers to visit their nearest district hospital.

The 21-year-old man hailing from Belthangady taluk had flown from Dubai to Bengaluru on March 21 and on the same day travelled to Mangaluru by the KSRTC bus bearing registration number KA 19, F3329

As he was suffering from fever and cough he was admitted to Puttur government hospital on March 24. He was tested positive for the novel coronavirus on March 27.

It is not yet know how many passengers were there on board the above mentioned bus which had departed Bengaluru at 4:30 p.m. on March 21. It is believed that most of the passengers who travelled by this bus are residents of Dakshina Kannada.

Bengaluru, Jul 7: Former Health minister and Congress MLA UT Khader has alleged that the state government has purchased coronavirus equipment for more than twice the actual price.

"Rs 500 sanitizers have been purchased for Rs 900 and Rs 9,000 has been paid to Rs 1200 for the thermal metre by the government. Instead of asking to allow him to work, Mr B Sriramulu, being health minister he must work for the people," he said.

He said that three months have passed since the pandemic started but the state government is still struggling to send ambulances to needy patients.

"Instead of ambulance it is sending final rights vehicle to needy people," Khader said.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there are 23,474 coronavirus cases in Karnataka including 13,255 and 372 deaths.
