Udupi, Apr 14: Former DySP Anupama Shenoy, who floated Bharatiya Janshakthi Congress last year, has confirmed that he would contest the May 12 assembly polls from Udupi’s Kaup Assembly constituency.

Addressing media persons, Shenoy said that though she was not totally against incumbent Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake, she was disappointed by his lukewarm response to most of the burning issues. “I am confident of winning from Kaup,” she said.

Condemning the privatisation of the district maternity and children hospital, she said that a close nexus between the BRS ventures and Congress government has paved the way for well-planned strategies in handing over the hospital.

She said that she has approached the court over the watch that was worn by the chief minister as it was gifted by Dr Girish Chandra, a close associate of B R Shetty. "Added to the woes, B R Shetty has a criminal background as a case against him is pending in the court," she said.

Former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa has denotified some 11.25 acres of land in the name of B R Shetty in Rampura village. Moreover, around 2.30 acres of land has been sold to Shetty for 3.75 crores as against the market value of Rs 54.45 crore, she added.

She said she would be now concentrating on Chikkamagaluru, Uttar Kannada, Kodagu and Dakshina Kannada and other districts.  She added that the Election Commission has offered ladyfinger as the symbol for her party.

“I launched a new party with an aim to incorporate the new force. The only criterion for the candidates is that he or she should not have a criminal background and should be familiar with the Kannada language,” she said.

Udupi, Jun 4: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakhar on Wednesday said that he will take up an issue before a high-powered committee on COVID-19 to find out the possibility of imposing lockdown on a particular house of the person infected with the virus instead of sealing down of entire areas.

Talking to reporters here on Tuesday after reviewing the district's prevailing COVID situation, the minister said the concept and modalities of declaring any area as containment zone has undergone changes in the last two months.

"Hitherto, we were declaring the entire area as the containment zone after detection of coronavirus positive cases. Subsequently, the area of the containment zone was decreased from the whole area to a particular street," the Minister said.

"Now, BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat has given a suggestion to seal down a particular house of the positive patient which would be taken up before the high-powered panel. The district administration concerned could supply all essential items to the particular family," he said.

He further said that the Union government has been providing all facilities to all the states to deal with the situation."
