Mumbai, Aug 30: When Mumbai faces a crisis – the resilience and the spirit of people are at its very best!

Time and again it has been proved – whether it is the 12 March, 1993 serial blasts, the 26 July, 2005 mega-deluge, the 11 July, 2006 chain bombing in local trains or the 26-29 November, 2008 fidayeen attacks – Mumbai has shown how to react and reach out to the Common Man.

The 29/8 deluge has shown this one again – when the Good Samaritans rose to the occasion to live up to the expectations of the Common Man and once again prove to the world the Spirit of Mumbai.

“Lashing rain .. flooded water logged .. but so admirable to see Mumbai Police, common man helping out .. true Mumbaikar Spirit…..A peculiar eerie quiet in the morning of Mumbai .. and now the rain has started again .. BUT Mumbaikar Spirit is tough .. JAI HIND,” Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted.

Throughout the intervening night of Tuesday-Wednesday, people were seen helping each other.

Most of the big Ganpati mandals kept their pandals opened throughout the night and offered food – whether it was the Lalbaug cha Raja or GSB Sarvajanik Mandal. People also took shelter at the Siddhivinayak temple. “We will help people to the maximum extent possible,” said TV celebrity Aadesh Bandekar, the temple trust chairman.

“The storm seems to have passed. A long night for those who have slept in some kind soul's bed. Time to go home. Gratefully!,” tweeted actor Boman Irani, who last night informed stranded people to take shelter at the Dadar Parsi Colony Gymkhana.

Whether it is temples, mosques, churches, gurudwaras or Jain temples, they came out to help the people. “The Spirit of Mumbai never fails,” said celebrity manager and publicist Amit Shah, a resident of Ghatkopar, who was seen at the station overnight speaking to stranded people and those helping them and posting it on Facebook Live. “People of all faith were seen helping each other….religion, caste, creed, colour, financial background never comes in between,” said blogger BK Kumar.

Cricketer Ravindra Jadeja tweeted: “A Big Salute To Each & Every #RainHosts Who Offered Help To #Mumbaikars Last Night. Never Let The Spirit OF Humanity Die.”

Under the third phase, India would have 550 flights including 191 feeder flights.

Mumbai, Jun 27: The Shiv Sena on Saturday hit out at the BJP over its charge that the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) had accepted donations from the Chinese embassy, and asked it whether the issue had any connection with intrusion by the neighbouring country in Ladakh and the martyrdom of 20 Indian soldiers.

The Sena also alleged that those raising questions against the government over the standoff with China were being labelled as Chinese agents by the BJP.

BJP chief J P Nadda had on Thursday targeted the Congress and the Gandhi family saying that the RGF had allegedly accepted donations from the Chinese embassy. Hitting back, the Congress had said that the RGF issue raised by the BJP government was a "manufactured charge" and "diversionary tactic" to deflect attention from the LAC crisis.

"What do you mean by Congress gets money from China? Instead of responding to the issues raised by Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi over the Chinese incursions, the BJP leaders accused the Congress of receiving funds from China," the Sena said in an editorial in party mouthpiece 'Saamana'.

"Will BJP's revelations about the donations stop the Chinese activities along the border? The BJP should tell what connection does these donations have with the Chinese incursion and the martyrdom of 20 soldiers," it added.

"In our country, many political leaders and parties, and not just the Congress, are beneficiaries of foreign countries. The BJP speaking about this is like throwing stones in the mud," it said.

The Uddhav Thackeray-led party said that Chinese President Xi Jinping visited India twice in the last six years.

"He was hosted in Gujarat. But it is a fact that China has betrayed. Holding talks on the one hand and continuing with the offensive along the border on the other hand is China's old policy," it said.

In the present scenario, the entire country stands firmly with PM Modi. This crisis is not for the BJP or the Congress, but for the entire country, whose prestige is at stake, it said.

"The BJP can fight with the Congress any time later.

But now is the time to fight against China. It should speak on that," the Sena said.
