Mangaluru, Aug 12: Congress veteran B Janardhana Poojary has warned chief minister Siddaramaiah against neglecting BJP supremo Amit Shah’s strategies for upcoming assembly polls.

Speaking to media persons here on Saturday, the former union minister said that CM should wake up from and tender his resignation.

“Siddaramaiah should realise that Amit Shah has come to the State to unseat the former. The visit of BJP chief was a matter of concern for the Congress and more so Siddaramaiah. Wherever Shah has toured, the ruling party’s Chief Minister has been unseated,” Poojary said.

He said that in spite of the severe drought, Siddaramaiah has so far not found time to tour the affected regions of the State. “I am really shocked by his recent statement on drought following a visit to an affected place.”

Poojary also said that Siddaramaiah should pave way for a Dalit leader or D.K. Shivakumar to become Chief Minister. The party high command has a good opinion of Mr. Shivakumar, who has stood by the party during difficult times. “Both Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have appreciated Mr. Shivakumar,” he said and added that Mr. Shivakumar would become the Chief Minister in the coming days.

Poojary said the ongoing investigation by the Income Tax department on the assets of Mr. Shivakumar will not come in the way of his becoming the Chief Minister.

According to them, a Panchayat office staff who noticed the PPE thrown in the river informed the Health Department about it on Tuesday and following which a police complaint was filed.

As the PPE is used only for medical treatment, police officials need to investigate who used the kit and in which hospital, who threw it in the river and the purpose of throwing it.

Bengaluru, Apr 15: The Opposition Congress in Karnataka on Wednesday accused the BJP government, headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, of showing discrimination in distribution of relief material to those affected by the lockdown, clamped to check the spread of Novel Coronavirus, by favouring constituencies represented by the ruling BJP Legislators.

Despite that, the party intends to extend full cooperation to the government during this hour of crisis without indulging in politics, it urged the administration to be “transparent”.

''We have had our (Congress) Task Force meeting today, during which we discussed several matters. There is a lot of difference between the government's talk and its deeds,'' KPCC President D K Shivakumar said.

Chennai, July 25: A widow living alone in her apartment in Chennai city suburbs has filed a police complaint against ABVP national president Dr Subbiah Shanmugam, accusing him of harassment, including urinating and throwing used surgical masks at her doorstep.

Shockingly, no action has been taken so far by the police, even though the complaint against Dr Shanmugam, who is in government service, was filed on July 11 at the Adambakkam Police Station here by the widow’s relative Balaji Vijayaraghavan.

Dr Shanmugam and the 62-year-old widow were living in the same apartment complex in Nanganallur and an argument broke between them over a parking slot. “He wanted to use our parking lot. We agreed but demanded a nominal charge for using it. He was outraged by our demand and even broke our signboard at the parking lot,” Vijayaraghavan wrote in his complaint.

He also alleged that Dr Shanmugam began harassing her by throwing “pieces of chicken” outside her apartment despite knowing she is a vegetarian. Vijayaraghavan also alleged in his two-page written complaint that the ABVP National President had urinated outside the woman’s apartment gate and had been throwing garbage and used masks at her gate.

The 62-year-old woman has been living alone in her apartment for the last year following her husband’s death. In his complaint, Vijayaraghavan also said the family was “concerned about her safety”, while asking police to take action against Dr Shanmugam, who he says, “has a bad track record in maintaining rapport with neighbours.”

CCTV footage corroborates with the allegations of urinating outside the residence of the widow. However, the ABVP claimed the incident as a “malicious and derogatory propaganda” by the Congress’ student wing of NSUI.
