Amit Shah re-elected BJP chief; Advani, Joshi skip event

New Delhi, Jan 24: BJP chief Amit Shah has been re-elected as the party President. The announcement was made after top party leaders led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, a bevy of Union ministers and chief ministers of BJP-ruled states proposed his name for the party President's post during the nomination process today.

Among others who have proposed Shah's name are Union minister Rajnath Singh, Anant Kumar and J P Nadda, M Venkaiah Naidu, besides BJP chief ministers Vasundhara Raje, Raghubar Das, Shivraj Singh Chauhan and others.

BJP Parliamentary Board is scheduled to meet on January 28 evening to welcome Shah into his new term.

This will be first full term, which is for three years, for the close confidant of Modi.

Shah had taken over as the party chief during midway of Rajnath Singh's term after Singh joined the government as the Home Minister in May 2014.

Top BJP veterans including LK Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi, now members of the party's Margdarshak Mandal, skipped the nomination process and Shah's subsequent felicitation at 11, Ashoka Road headquarters of the BJP in New Delhi.

Bengaluru, May 25: With the reporting of 93 more fresh cases of COVID-19, the total number of pandemic cases were surged to 2182 in Karnataka on Monday.

According to official sources, highest number of new cases of COVID-19 pandemic, were reported from Udupi (32), Kalaburagi (16), Yadagiri (15), Bengaluru Urban (08), Dakshina Kannada (04) in the last 24-hours in the state.

The fresh cases were also reported form Mandya, Belagavi, Ramanagara, Vijayapura, Kolara, Ballari and Dharwada district.

Mangaluru, Jun 11: Amid rising COVID-19 cases in the district, the officials of Pilikula Zoological Park are also following quarantine policies for animals similar to those for people arriving in the state from other places.

Zoo officials said that these rules apply only for animals that are brought from other locations.

The officials are keeping animals brought in a separate room for one to two months and their health is monitored by expert Doctors. If there are no symptoms of any diseases, the animals will be clubbed with other Zoo animals.

Mangaluru, Jun 29: An elderly woman who was tested positive for coronavirus, breathed her last at the designated covid hospital in the city today.

The deceased was a 60-year-old resident of Ullal.

According to sources, the woman, was getting treated for ailments related to liver and heart.
