Amit Shah’s son’s company grew by 16,000 times in one year

New Delhi, Oct 8: The Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday took a dig at the NDA government over a report that the company owned by Amit Shah’s son recorded a massive 16,000-times increase in turnover over in the year following the election of Narendra Modi as prime minister and the elevation of Shah to the post of party president.

The Opposition parties have sought answers from Prime Minister and the BJP president, and demanded a probe by the ED and the CBI.

Addressing a press conference at the AICC headquarters, senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal said it seems the fortunes of some people have changed after the change of power. He said filings with the Registrar of Companies (RoC) have revealed that the company owned by Shah’s son Jay started making profits after 2014. The story was reported by The Wire today.

He said in March 2013 and in March 2014, Shah’s Temple Enterprise Private Ltd recorded losses of Rs 6,230 and Rs 1,724 respectively. “In 2014-15 it started making profits…that means there was some change in May and profit ka karvah shuru ho gaya….”

“In 2014-15, the company made a profit of Rs 18,728. The real change happened in 2015-16 and it is shocking…..The company made a turnover of Rs 80 crore in 2015-16. The company started getting loans. One Rajesh Khandwala, who owns KIFS Financial Services, gave a loan of Rs 15.78 crore. And the company stopped business activities in October 2016. And the reason stated was that the company was incurring losses.”

“Today, we want to ask our Prime Minister what you now think about crony capitalism. Will you direct the CBI to probe? Will you direct the ED to probe? Will you ask them to arrest them? Because in the case of opposition, the ED immediately sends notice and shows speed in arresting them…If somebody’s name is Jai, Amit and Shah who can arrest them. I can confidently tell you that the Prime Minister will remain silent,” Sibal said.

He alleged he has learnt that the electronic media has been asked not to show his press conference.

“Our pradhan sevak always used to talk about crony capitalism. Even if there is an allegation of Rs 10 lakh against anyone, they set the CBI after them. They set the ED after him. If they want to level any allegation against a Congress leader….there was an allegation of Rs 10 crore against Virbhadra Singh….how many cases did they launch…So we want to ask where is the CBI, ED and where is the prime minister.”

“The Prime Minister will not speak. Because it is about the son of his party’s president. Unhi ki ho jai wo hain? So how suddenly there was a turnover of Rs 80 crore..this company was dealing in agri products….” he said.

Asked where is the criminality, he said “we are talking about crony capitalism. Criminality will only (be established) if there is an investigation. That will only be determined by an investigation. Why where these loans given through ooperative banks without a mortgage, without proper security. Seven crore was the turnover of the cooperative bank and loan of Rs 25 crore was given…why,” he asked.

He spoke about Kusum Finserve, a limited liability partnership incorporated in July 2015 with Jay Shah owning a 60 per cent stake in it. He said the got company got Rs 25 crore loan from the Kalupur Commercial Cooperative Bank. The board of directors of the bank, he said, include individuals from the Nirma group and Nirma university.

Asked whether the Congress will seek an investigation, he said “investigation is to be done by agencies under their control. Who will listen to the Congress. We just want you to tell the people of India that this is happening in our country. We know who CBI, ED will investigate and who ED and CBI will not investigate. Is the Prime Minister open and honest enough to say investigate the son of Amit Shah. That is the issue.”

“Our appeal to the Prime Minister is that you are the pradhan sevak ….you always say na khaunga, na khane dunga….tho nahin khane dijiye.” “This is the Shah model of business…,” he said.

Defending Jay Shah, BJP’s national IT cell chief Amit Malviya, in a series of tweets, said: “Every new business starts with nil turnover on day one, expands later. What is wrong with legitimate expansion of business?  This was a legitimate commodity export import business, where volumes are high and margins are low so 16,000x misleading. Is Jay Shah not allowed to take loan on market rates of interest from a registered NBFC? Where is the favour / impropriety? Since when has taking a loan by cheque become illegal? Jay Shah company took a loan from NBFC, disclosed it in income tax.”

Meanwhile, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi tweeted: “We finally found the only beneficiary of Demonetisation. It’s not the RBI, the poor or the farmers. It’s the Shah-in-Shah of Demo. Jai Amit,”

The AAP also held a press conference. Senior leader Ashuthosh said a FIR should be registered against Jay Shah and a probe should be ordered into his company’s activities.

New Delhi, Mar 12: TMC MP Saugata Roy said Home Minister Amit Shah should resign for "failing" to control the riots in Delhi and demanded a judicial inquiry by a sitting Supreme Court judge.

Participating in a discussion on the violence in Delhi in Lok Sabha, Roy said the Delhi riots happened 72 years after Mahatma Gandhi was killed by a Hindu fanatic.

"Gandhiji has been murdered again in Delhi by, you know who," Roy said while addressing the Chair.

Taking on BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi for defending BJP leaders for their controversial remarks, which he claimed instigated the violence, Roy said he has seldom heard such a communal speech ever.

Dubbing the BJP MP as "Devil's Advocate", Roy said, "She spent five minutes defending the most hated man. May I quote (William) Shakespeare and call her the Devil's Advocate?...She is the best Devil's Advocate possible. She has also been an advocate for the Delhi Police which has shown total inaction and ineptness in this whole riot in Delhi."

Thereafter Roy trained his gun at Shah, who was present in the house while the TMC MP was speaking.

He said that when the riots started on February 24, Home Minister Shah was sitting in the front row at Motera Stadium (in Gujarat) welcoming US President Donald Trump.

"When Mr. Shah should have been in Delhi Police control room, he was welcoming Mr. Trump at Motera. There was no order to the police. Then on 25th, things went out of control. Armed mobs fought with each other on the streets of Delhi," Roy said.

Demanding resignation of Shah, Roy raised questions on NSA Ajit Doval's visit to the riots-affected areas on February 26 and asked what was the Home Minister doing.

"Is it NSA's business to control ordinary law and order situation? Why was the Home Minister absent in action? There is no explanation for the same," he said.

The TMC leader said he feels bad standing face-to-face with Shah.

"He is still young, he has a good future. He should acknowledge responsibility for his failure to control or stop Delhi riots and bring peace in three days. In the name of God, go and do not stay in the Home Minister's position," Roy said, adding he is the man who could not prevent riots in Delhi, at a place 10 kilometres away from the Home Ministry.

Roy demanded a judicial inquiry into the riots by a sitting Supreme Court judge and complete rehabilitation for all the riot victims.

Asserting that social distancing was maintained during the wedding, the JD(S) leader in a series of tweets hit out at those accusing his family of violating lockdown norms, by stating that they were doing it out of "political hate".

"Despite maintaining social distancing and following rules during Nikhil's marriage, there are discussion that norms were not followed.

He said, "heartfelt thanks to Yediyurappa for his statement that a big political family in the state has conducted the marriage ceremony in a simple way."

Coming to the defence of Gowda family, Yediyurappa in response to a question on Saturday told reporters "They (family) had all the permissions and the event was held in a simple fashion. There's no need to discuss this.

"Despite having many relatives, they stuck to the limitations. For this, I congratulate them," he had said.

Stating that lockdown rules were followed during Nikhil's marriage, Kumaraswamy said, "By looking for politics in Nikhil's marriage, certain faulty minds on social media are spewing venom that is in their mind."

A 53-year-old Indian worker in the UAE has missed a special repatriation flight after he dozed off at the Dubai International Airport, a media report said.

P Shajahan, who worked as a storekeeper in Abu Dhabi, was supposed to fly to Thiruvananthapuram on the Emirates jumbo jet chartered by the Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre (KMCC) Dubai, Gulf News reported.

It was the first-ever jumbo jet chartered for repatriation.

Shajahan, who had paid 1,100 dirham (USD 300) for the ticket, said that he did not sleep on the previous night as he kept on waiting for the confirmation of his ticket for the jumbo jet flying 427 stranded Indians to Kerala, it said.

He reached the airport early in the morning and after finishing the check-in procedures and rapid test, he reached the waiting area of the boarding gate at Terminal 3 around 2 PM local time, the report said.

“I sat away from most of the others. But I fell asleep after 4.30 PM,” he said.

S Nizamudeen Kollam, who coordinated the charter flight, said that the airline officials could not trace Shajahan when the flight was to take off.

“He woke up and called us after the flight left. It is sad that he missed the flight, which was the first-ever jumbo jet chartered for repatriation. We are now trying to send him on another Emirates flight that we are chartering on Saturday,” Kollam said.

Since Shajahan did not have any money, Jasimkhan Kallambalam, organising secretary of KMCC Thiruvananthapuram, went to the airport to meet him on Friday.

“Since his visa was cancelled, he could not come out of the airport. He had only eaten the snacks in the kit KMCC had given. We managed to give him some cash for buying food through KMCC volunteer Alamsha Latheef,” Kallambalam said.

In March, another Indian expat had fallen asleep in the same terminal and missed the last flight home before flights were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

He was stranded here for over 50 days before getting repatriated.
