Bengaluru, Jul 1: In a major blow to the 13-month-old JD(S)-Congress coalition government, Congress MLA from Vijayanagar Anand Singh on Monday announced his decision to resign amid speculation that Opposition BJP has renewed its efforts to poach rival party legislators to topple the government.

Singh, who was recently upset with the coalition government’s move to give away 3,667 acres of land to JSW Steel in Ballari, also met Governor Vajubhai Vala and appraised him on his decision. “I have resigned. I am meeting the Governor to inform him about my decision,” Singh told reporters.

Speculation was rife in the political circles that more than half a dozen disgruntled Congress and JD(S) MLAs will follow suit. Many of the Congress and the JD(S) MLAs are upset with their parties for not making them ministers.

The development has come at a time when Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is away in the US on a private visit. Kumaraswamy is expected to return to Bengaluru on July 6.

‘Not received’

Meanwhile, Karnataka Legislative Assembly Speaker Ramesh Kumar today denied having received Resignation letter from Congress MLA Anand Singh, who claimed to have tendered his resignation to the assembly seat.

"I have not received Resignation from any Legislator belonging either to Congress or JDS--Coalition partners of the Karnataka Government headed by Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy," he added.

Talking to newsmen here on Monday, Ramesh Kumar said that "I am staying in a rented House and I don’t know to whom he (Anand Singh) has given his resignation letter. I am not aware about he tendering his resignation."

These are selfish people who are after money only.   MLAs leaving Congress to BJP are not human.  they are after money only.  Money is their belief and religion.   They are as if traitors and anti nationals.   They are cheaters also.   they beg for public vote in the name of one party and after getting elected they are looking for another party who offers them money.   Public should take note of such monkeys and should never vote them again and such poepl should be taught good lesson whenever they approach public for vote.    I wish public should make their head bald and make them sit on ass and run in the streets.

Mumbai, May 13: Members of the Muslim community helped in performing the last rites of their 72-year-old Hindu neighbour in Sewri area here after the deceased's relatives could not reach for his funeral due to the lockdown.

Pandurang Ubale, who was paralysed since the last few months, died at his residence in Zakaria Bunder area of Sewri on Monday. He had been staying there along with his wife and son since some decades.

After his death on Monday, his relatives staying in suburban Mulund, Belapur in adjoining Navi Mumbai and Alibaug in neighbouring Raigad district could not come over to his place in the wake of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

As Ubale's wife and son were unable to make all arrangements for the funeral, they informed their neighbours, who came forward to help and even prepared the bier.

A neighbour, Asif Sheikh, who attended the funeral, said, We knew Ubale uncle since a long time. He always participated in our festivals and we used to be a part of their festivities. We all came forward to bid him a farewell and helped in performing his last rites."

Last month also, some Muslim men carried the body of a Hindu neighbour in suburban Bandra on their shoulders to the cremation ground after the deceased's relatives were unable to attend the last rites due to the lockdown.

Shivamogga, May 21: An FIR has been registered against Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi in Sagar taluk of Shivamogga district of Karnataka over tweets on May 11 by the party's official handle about PM-CARES fund.

The FIR, registered under Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), identifies Gandhi as the handler of the social media account.

The complaint by advocate Praveen KV alleged that the Congress party, through the tweets, has made rumourous statements against the Government of India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was trying to provoke the people against the government.

According to the FIR, the Congress party had on May 11, 2020, made false and baseless allegations, claimed misappropriation of PM-CARES Fund and cast aspersions on the Government of India through the tweets.

"A Twitter account handled by All India Congress Committee headed by Sonia Gandhi had on May 11, 2020, published tweets terming PM CARES Fund as PM CARES Fraud. They had claimed that the PM CARES fund is not being used for the public," Praveen KV told ANI on Thursday.

He said that he has collected all the details related to the tweets and account from the handle and filed a complaint in the matter, following which a preliminary enquiry was conducted and an FIR was registered in the matter.

"They had also said that the Prime Minister was enjoying and going to foreign trips with this fund. This is clearly rumourous news against the Government of India in this COVID-19 pandemic situation. In this regard, I had filed a complaint. After a primary enquiry, the Sagar Police has filed an FIR against Sonia Gandhi, who heads the INC Twitter account," Praveen KV said.
