Another Kasaragod youth reportedly killed in drone strike in Afghan

Kasaragod, Aug 1: Another Kerala resident, who along with 20 others is suspected to have fled to Afghanistan last year, was killed in a “drone strike,” a senior NIA official said.

He was quoting a message received by the father of the victim.

Mohammad Marwan, a resident of Kasargod in Kerala was among a group of women, men and children who mysteriously disappeared from the south Indian state.

NIA had claimed that the missing persons made their way to the Khorasan province in Afghanistan via Iran to be a part of the IS controlled territory.

Earlier, three other members of the group - Bestin Vincent, Mohammad Hafeezuddin and Murshid Mohammad - were reportedly killed in drone attacks.

On Monday, Marwan’s father recieved a message from Ashfaq Majeed, another accused in Afghanistan that “Marwan has been killed in drone strike and it has been few days.” The message was sent on Telegram.

Mangaluru, Jan 7: Kasturba Medical College Mangaluru, a constituent unit of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), in association with Pai Family Endowment (in memory of Shri Suhas Gopal Pai) as its social initiative opens a newborn hearing assessment centre at Govt Lady Goshen Hospital on Tuesday.

Dr M Venkatraya Prabhu, Dean of KMC Mangaluru addressing the media persons said that the project is made possible by the generous philanthropic contribution of Mrs Anuradha (Shanthi)Gopal Pai and will be inaugurated by her in Presence of Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE.

Dr Deepak Madi, Deputy Medical Superintendent KMC Hospital Attavar explained that the facility will be managed by the departments from Audiology, ENT and Paediatrics of Kasturba Medical College, Mangaluru. The Centre aims to screen all the babies born in the hospital for hearing loss.

This is the maiden initiative of the MAHE-Pai Family endowment which has been set up to find solutions for the numerous challenges faced by the hearing handicapped in & around Dakshina Kannada district.

Chikkamagaluru, May 4: KSRTC resumed its service from Chikkamagaluru district headquarters to taluk centres amidst the lockdown to contain COVID-19 on Monday. Chikkamagaluru is in the green zone.

Hundreds of passengers travelled to Sringeri, Mudigere, Koppa and Kadur taluks since morning from the Chikkamagaluru city.

According to KSRTC Divisional Controller, passengers who wish to travel to taluk centres have to register half an hour prior to the journey. 

Sanitisers were placed in the bus stand in Chikkamagaluru to sanitise hands before boarding the buses.

Mangaluru, June 29: Six more personnel from Ullal Police Station in Mangaluru taluk have tested positive for covid-19. 

With this, the total number of covid positive cops from the Ullal Police Station mounted to 10.

Official sources said that throat swabs of five police personnel and a Home Guard from Ullal today received positive report today. Earlier, four other cops were tested positive. 

In addition to the police personnel, two undertrials arrested by the Ullal police on the charges of murder attempt at Thokkottu Olapete too were tested positive for Covid-19 June 28.
