Another Kasaragod youth reportedly killed in drone strike in Afghan

Kasaragod, Aug 1: Another Kerala resident, who along with 20 others is suspected to have fled to Afghanistan last year, was killed in a “drone strike,” a senior NIA official said.

He was quoting a message received by the father of the victim.

Mohammad Marwan, a resident of Kasargod in Kerala was among a group of women, men and children who mysteriously disappeared from the south Indian state.

NIA had claimed that the missing persons made their way to the Khorasan province in Afghanistan via Iran to be a part of the IS controlled territory.

Earlier, three other members of the group - Bestin Vincent, Mohammad Hafeezuddin and Murshid Mohammad - were reportedly killed in drone attacks.

On Monday, Marwan’s father recieved a message from Ashfaq Majeed, another accused in Afghanistan that “Marwan has been killed in drone strike and it has been few days.” The message was sent on Telegram.

Mangaluru, Jul 11: Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh has set up an expert committee to look into the cause of deaths of covid patients in Dakshina Kannada.

The development comes after eight more fatalities including that of a CISF personnel attached to MRPL, were reported in the district on Friday.

The district has recorded 23 deaths since July 1 and 38 death cases have been reported in the district since April 19.

Of the 38 deaths, five were from outside the district. All the eight patients, who lost their battle to the virus in the district on Friday, were suffering from co-morbidities.

According to the govt bulletin on Covid-19 cases, comorbid conditions, like kidney failure, brain tumour, TB, pneumonia, liver damage, high BP, diabetes and others, were the main reasons behind the Covid-19 deaths reported in the district.

Mangaluru, Feb 16: A 45 year-old man committed suicide by jumping into Netravati River from the bridge near Thokkottu along with his six-year-old son in the early hours of Sunday here, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Gopalkrishna Rai and his son Aneesh Rai, residents of Baltila in Bantwal.

According to the police, Gopalkrishna along with his wife Ashwini Rai and son had come to Konaje for a family programme. At about 4:30 a.m. he came to the bridge with his son, left a suicide note and jumped into the river.

Udupi, Jul 14: Kundapura police in Karnataka have booked a case against a businessman who had violated home quarantine rules as many as 163 times.

Accused Sahab Singh had arrived at his rented house at Koteshwara from Mumbai on June 29. He was asked to remain quarantined in his house till July 13. 

However, he was found loitering and visiting hotels in Udupi. Officials tracked his movement through mobile GPS. He breached the quarantine period 163 times. 

Following the violation, Flying Squad officer N G Bhat filed a complaint against Singh in Kundapura Police Station under IPC Sections 269, and 270.
