Another Kasaragod youth reportedly killed in drone strike in Afghan

Kasaragod, Aug 1: Another Kerala resident, who along with 20 others is suspected to have fled to Afghanistan last year, was killed in a “drone strike,” a senior NIA official said.

He was quoting a message received by the father of the victim.

Mohammad Marwan, a resident of Kasargod in Kerala was among a group of women, men and children who mysteriously disappeared from the south Indian state.

NIA had claimed that the missing persons made their way to the Khorasan province in Afghanistan via Iran to be a part of the IS controlled territory.

Earlier, three other members of the group - Bestin Vincent, Mohammad Hafeezuddin and Murshid Mohammad - were reportedly killed in drone attacks.

On Monday, Marwan’s father recieved a message from Ashfaq Majeed, another accused in Afghanistan that “Marwan has been killed in drone strike and it has been few days.” The message was sent on Telegram.

Mudigre, May 23: The throat swab sample of a Primary Health Care doctor at Mudigere in Chikkamagaluru district tested negative for COVID-19. 

It was wrongly tested positive for COVID-19 on May 19, clarified DC Dr Bagadi Gautham. 

The doctor's throat swab was tested again in Shivamogga and Hassan labs where it has tested negative. He will be discharged from hospital, said the DC.

All the 28 contacts of the doctor too tested negative. 

A total of 485 primary contacts and 961 secondary contacts of the doctor were quarantined after the throat swab of the doctor was tested positive. All the contacts who have been quarantined will be sent back home from quarantine centres, added DC.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: The Janata Dal (Secular) will contest all the 243 assembly seats in Bihar, the elections for which are due in October-November this year, its state unit chief Haldhar Kant Mishra announced on Tuesday.

Mishra said party supremo Deve Gowda has asked him to expand JD(S)'s base and also to prepare itself for contesting all the constituencies in view of the zeal and enthusiasm shown by party workers and office-bearers.

Deve Gowda announced the decision during a virtual meeting with presidents of party's various cells and office- bearers, he said.

He assured that the party will provide all kinds of support for its expansion and selection of candidates for the Bihar polls, Mishra said.

The former prime minister told the party functionaries that several leaders from Bihar are in touch with him and they will join the JD(S) to play their part in the elections, he added.

Bengaluru, Mar 23: In the wake of the shutdown in several districts of the state to control the COVID-19 spread, Karnataka government on Monday said food would be provided free of cost through Indira Canteen for the poor who depend on daily wages for their livelihood.

The state-sponsored subsidised 'Indira Canteens' as of now serves breakfast at Rs 5 and lunch and dinner at a cost of Rs 10.

"In the interest of the poor, it has been decided to serve free food for poor. Through Indira Canteen, free food will be served for the entire day for the poor," Yediyurappa told reporters.

The Karnataka government has already announced shutdown of all commercial activities, barring essential services, in nine districts where COVID-19 cases have been reported till March 31.

They are: Bengaluru city, Bengaluru Rural, Mangaluru, Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Dharwad, Chikkaballapura, Kodagu and Belagavi.
