Mar 11: In yet another blow for the Congress, the party's MLA from Jamnagar (Rural) Vallabh Dharaviya on Monday quit the party and handed over his resignation to Gujarat Assembly Speaker Rajendra Trivedi.

Dharaviya is the third Congress MLA to resign from the party in the last four days. "Dharaviya has resigned as Jamnagar (Rural) MLA. He told me he is resigning voluntarily," Speaker Trivedi told PTI.

Hours before Dharaviya quit the Congress, his former party colleague and former Dhrangadhra MLA Parsotam Sabariya, who had quit the Congress on March 8, joined the BJP in the presence of BJP leaders I K Jadeja and K C Patel.

Sabariya was arrested in October last year for his alleged involvement in an irrigation scam but he was granted bail in February by the Gujarat High Court. For his part, Sabariya claimed that he had not quit the Congress and joined BJP under any pressure.

"I am joining the BJP to develop my constituency. I was not under any pressure and have resigned from the Congress voluntarily. As far as the FIR is concerned, the law will take its own course. The BJP has to do nothing about it. I am not joining BJP to get any post or for other benefits," he told reporters.

Congress MLA from Manavadar, Jawahar Chavda, had resigned from the Assembly on March 8. After quitting the Congress, Chavda joined the BJP and was given a cabinet berth in the Vijay Rupani government on March 9.

A total of five Congress MLAs have quit the party in the past few months. The Congress also lost one MLA when Bhagvan Barad was disqualified from the Assembly on March 5 after he was convicted and awarded a jail term of 33 months by a local court in an illegal mining case.

Congress MLA Kunvarji Bavalia had resigned in July last year and he is now a cabinet minister in the state government. In February, another Congress MLA Asha Patel had resigned from the Gujarat Assembly to join the BJP.

The BJP now has 100 MLAs, while the Congress has 71 MLAs in the 182-member Gujarat Assembly.

Bhopal, Jul 7: Anil Mishra, personal assistant to BJP Rajya Sabha MP Jyotiraditya Scindia, has tested positive.

He has been accompanying Scindia throughout his tours post-corona infection.

His contact trail is longer than that of Scindia. He has been in touch with Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Mishra was present during Scindia's meetings with the MLAs and the swearing in ceremony of the MP ministry on July 2.

BJP sources say there is concern over the possible list of people who will be put in isolation to check the spread of the virus.

Jaipur, Jul 23: Four days after the Special Operation Group (SOG) sent a notice to Union minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in connection with the purported audio clips indicating his alleged involvement in horse trading of MLAs in Rajasthan, a city court has directed the Rajasthan police to probe a complaint alleging Shekhawat's role in a credit society scam worth Rs 840 crore.

The additional district judge Pawan Kumar, on Tuesday, directed the additional chief judicial magistrate's court to send the complaint against Shekhawat to the SOG.

Shekhawat, his wife and other partners have been named in the complaint in the Sanjivani Credit Cooperative Society scam in which around 50,000 investors allegedly lost about Rs 840 crore.

The Jaipur unit of the SOG has been probing the scam since last year after an FIR was registered on August 23, 2019.

Now, Jaipur ADJ Court-8 ordered a fresh inquiry in the case against Gajendra Singh accepting the revised application filed by Lagu Singh and Guman Singh and said that "this is a serious matter and hence SOG should investigate this".

Both the applicants had invested a huge amount in Sanjivani credit cooperative society.

It is alleged in the complaint that a multi-storey building has been built with the money instead of a theatre which was proposed earlier and many properties were also bought in Ethiopia with the money.

An SOG investigation also reveals that a large amount of money has been deposited into accounts of Shekhawat and his wife at different time spans, said sources.

Earlier, Shekhawat was not mentioned in the chargesheet filed by the SOG in connection with the case. Later, a magistrate's court also rejected the application to include him in the chargesheet. The applicants then approached the additional district judge's court with a revised application.
