New Delhi, Apr 2: After saying sorry to four others earlier to wriggle out of defamation cases, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday apologised to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over his comments on the latter's tenure as the head of the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

Kejriwal told Jaitley that the allegations he levelled were based on information provided by some people claiming to have inside information about the functioning of the DDCA but it was proven wrong.

His aides Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chaddha and Deepak Bajpai also apologised to Jaitley, following which a joint petition to withdraw the defamation proceedings was filed in a court, which takes it up on Tuesday. Kumar Vishwas, who is named in the case, has not apologised and the case against him will continue.

Jaitley had in 2015 filed a criminal defamation complaint against them. A civil defamation suit has also been filed by Jaitley before the Delhi High Court seeking Rs 10 crore in damages after Kejriwal's then counsel Ram Jethmalani made some comments against him.

In his letter to Jaitley, Kejriwal said the allegations were based on information and papers furnished to him by "certain individuals who represented to have first-hand insight" into the DDCA's affairs.

"However, I have recently discovered that the information and the imputations contained therein are unfounded and unwarranted and I was clearly misinformed into making these allegations," Kejriwal said.

Kejriwal did not mention any names. Known Jaitley-detractor and BJP MP Kirti Azad and former cricket captain Bishan Singh Bedi had met Kejriwal earlier to brief him about the DDCA.

He said he was "unequivocally withdrawing" all the allegations levelled against Jaitley made in print, electronic or social media.

"I offer my sincere apology to you and your family members for any harm caused to your reputation as a consequence of my allegations," Kejriwal said.

He also said the "disparaging and malicious statements made by Ram Jethmalani, senior advocate representing me, were without my knowledge and/or instructions" and "I reaffirm what I have already stated earlier that I do not approve of these disparaging and malicious statements made by Ram Jethmalani."

"Though we belong to two different political parties, I believe that we should end the unsavoury litigations between us and serve the people of our country to the best of our abilities," he said.

Last month, Kejriwal had apologised to Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Akali Dal leader Bikram Majithia, Congress leader Kapil Sibal and his lawyer-son Amit.

New Delhi, Feb 5: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday announced that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra, set up by the government for construction of a temple in Ayodhya, will have 15 trustees and one of them will be from the Dalit community.

The statement comes a little over an hour after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in Lok Sabha about the constitution of the trust.

"There will be 15 trustees in the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust out of which one trustee will always be from the Dalit society," he tweeted.

Shah congratulated Modi "for such an unprecedented decision" that strengthens social harmony.

The home minister said the trust will be independent to take every decision related to the temple and 67 acres of land will be transferred to it.

"I fully believe that the waiting of millions of people for centuries will be over soon and they will be able to pay obeisance to Lord Shri Ram in his grand temple at his birthplace," he said.

Patna, Jan 12: Prashant Kishor, national vice-president of the Janata Dal (United), a key ally of the BJP-led NDA, has thanked Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi and former AICC chief Rahul Gandhi for their support in opposing CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and NRC (National Register of Citizens).

Perceived as one of the closest associates of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who is also the party’s national president, PK (as Prashant is fondly called) also assured the two top Congress leaders that the contentious legislation would not be implemented in Bihar where JD (U) is ruling the State with the support of the BJP.

“I join my voice with all to thank #Congress leadership for their formal and unequivocal rejection of #CAA_NRC. Both @rahulgandhi and @priyankagandhi deserve special thanks for their efforts on this count….also would like to reassure to all – CAA/NRC won’t be implemented in Bihar,” tweeted PK on Sunday.

The development assumes significance as a day back, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting, chaired by Sonia Gandhi, had strongly opposed CAA/NRC/NPR as it was aimed at “sinister design of the present regime to divide Indian people into religious lines.”

The latest tweet by PK is also being seen as a rebuff to the BJP, which again recently reiterated that “the BJP should project its own chief ministerial candidate during the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections.”

The JD (U) had taken umbrage over such provocative statements by BJP leaders and asked the saffron camp to rein in its ‘loudmouths’ as BJP chief Amit Shah had already made it clear that the next Assembly polls in Bihar would be fought under the leadership of Nitish.

Of late, PK has been quite vocal about his opposition to the Centre’s policies, particularly the contentious issues of NRC and CAA. Besides, he even dubbed senior BJP leader Sushil Modi as the man who became Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister due to ‘circumstances’ as the BJP was decisively decimated during the 2015 Assembly elections.

Nitish never reprimanded PK for his jibe against Modi, thereby giving rise to speculations whether Bihar was again heading for a political churning ahead of Assembly polls slated for October this year.
