‘Are dalits sinners?’ Kharge asks BJP leaders

Kalaburgi, Feb 14: Congress leader Mallikarjuna Kharge took a dig at BJP leaders for what he termed as playing political games in the name of appeasing Dalits.

"BJP leaders are constantly publicising that they ate, slept, stayed at dalits' houses. Does that mean dalits are sinners?" asked MP Mallikarjuna Kharge hotly.

He was in Kalaburagi to participate in various functions including the launch of the wifi hotspot for the city on Wednesday.

"Though I was born in a slum, I have risen to this position. BJP leaders speak as though eating in a dalit's house is an achievement. Do dalits feed them poison? They eat what all others eat and serve the same to BJP people. Dalit blood is red too, " Kharge burst out angrily.

It is the BJP and RSS which considers dalits as untouchables. It is because of casteism and those who support it, dalits still suffer, Kharge said.

Kharge said that state BJP president B S Yedyurappa's remark that AICC president Rahul Gandhi ate chicken at Koppal is 'far from the truth'.

Kharge said that BJP leaders are 'experts at lying'. They have made this accusation just for the sake of making it.

He reiterated that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Shivaraja Thandagi have already clarified the issue.

Mangaluru, Apr 5: As the number of Covid 19 cases continue to spike across Karnataka, there are patients who are recovering from this deadly virus as well. The first case of Covid 19 detected in Mangaluru has fully recovered and all set to return home.

The first case of corona infection was reported on March 22 in Dakshina Kannada district. 

A 22-year-old youth hailing from Bhatkal had landed at Mangaluru International Airport on March 19. 

As he was suffering from mild fever and cold, he was quarantined in Mangaluru. He had come from Dubai.

His throat swabs were sent for testing on the same day and on March 22 he was tested positive for coronavirus. 

He has undergone 14-day long treatment at the Wenlock Hospital, Mangaluru. 

On April 2 and 3, his throat swabs were sent for testing again. Both times he was tested negative for coronavirus. He is expected to be discharged on April 6.

So far a dozen coronavirus positive cases have been confirmed in Dakshina Kannada. With the recovery of one patient, there are 11 active cases in the district.

Manjeshwar, Jul 8: Manjeshwar police arrested a man with 10 Kg of Ganja while fleeing away from a checkpoint at Battippadavu last night.

The police said on Wednesday that since the vehicle did not stop they had to chase it and after going some distance the driver lost control over the steering and it met with an accident.

The police immediately arrested the accused and the ganja was found concealed in a gunny bag.

Mangaluru, May 1: Dakshina Kannada on Friday two more positive cases of coronavirus in the district, taking the total number of cases to 24.

According to the state health bulletin, the 62-year old husband of the 58-year old woman of Boloor who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday, also tested positive for the virus.

Another 69-year old patient hailing from Kasaba in Bantwal Taluk also tested positive for the infection.
