Arms selling gang busted; country made pistols, bullets, air gun seized

Bengaluru, Apr 8: The CCB Police have unearthed a inter-State illegal arms selling gang, arrested 8 people and seized from them two country made pistol, 8 live bullets and one Air gun from them in the City.

Police said on Monday they also seized Rs 55,000 cash, one saw blade, a car, 2 Motorbikes from the gang. This included two illegal weapon sellers from Maharashtra and six buyers of illegal arms from the city.

The arrested were identified as Shakil Ahmed, Sharan Katri, Imran Khan, Jalil Ummar, Rafi Ahmed Khan, Syed Wasim, Mohammed Hassan Ansari and Imran.

Uppinangady, Feb 16: Eleven people were injured, when a private bus in which they were travelling, toppled near Kodikal on Sunday, police said.

According to Police, more than 20 people were travelling in the bus towards Puttur from Sakleshpur when the mishap took place.

All the inmates were on their way to attend a wedding.

Udupi, Aug 1: A girl child died five persons suffered injuries in a car accident today on National Highway-66 near Ambalpady in Udupi.

According to sources, two couples and children were travelling in the car from Mangaluru to Shikaripura when the tragedy took place. 

The speeding car rammed into the road divider and flipped over after the driver lost control over it near Ambalpady. 

Among the injured, the condition of a woman is said to be critical. She has been admitted to KMC Hospital in Manipal. The other passengers escaped with minor injuries.

A case has been registered at Udupi town traffic police station and investigations are on. More details are awaited.

Bengaluru, Mar 10: With concerns growing by the day, the Karnataka government is readying three more labs to test throat swab samples.

Currently, only two labs in Bengaluru — National Institute of Virology and Virus Research and Diagnostics Laboratory (VRDL) lab attached to Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute — are categorised biosafety level 2+, a requirement for coronavirus tests.

Now, the government is working on upgrading three more labs, one each in the government medical colleges at Hassan, Mysuru and Shivamogga. “The labs will be ready within one week,” the authorities said.

Currently, the labs are testing only throat swab samples of suspected patients and taking 24 hours to give the results. “A patient’s blood sample will be collected only if he or she tests positive for covid-19 infection in the first throat swab sample.

While earlier the state would send all samples of suspected coronavirus cases to NIV, Pune, the two labs were upgraded to biosafety level 2+ in mid-February.
