Arms training camp: Absconding PFI activist finally arrested by NIA

Kasaragod, Mar 17: NIA today arrested a man from Kerala wanted for his alleged role in conducting an arms training camp in Kannur district of the state in 2013.

arrestedOfficials said a team from NIA's Kochi unit arrested Abdul Jaleel (41), said to be a PFI activist, in the wee hours from a house in Narath area where his wife was staying. He will be produced before a special NIA court in Kochi today.

The case pertains to the conduct of a secret training camp in Narath area by Popular Front of India (PFI) operatives.

According to NIA the men were trained inside a building owned by Thanal Foundation Trust in use of swords and explosives for executing terror attacks, an allegation rubbished by the PFI

Jaleel was the officiating chairman of the foundation. A non-bailable warrant issued by the court and a Look Out Circular were pending against him in the case, the officials said.

The agency has also picked up another person, identified as Shihab, along with Jaleel for questioning.

A special NIA court in Kerala had early this year convicted 21 men of PFI in the case.

The court had found them guilty under several charges charges, including criminal conspiracy, membership of unlawful assembly, possession of arms and explosive substances, inciting communal disharmony, assertions prejudicial to national integration besides organising a terrorist camp.

Mangaluru, Mar 27: Nine throat swab samples that were sent for testing of the coronavirus, have been declared as negative while samples of four more persons are currently being tested, official sources said on Friday.

Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B. Rupesh said that 2,902 people are under home quarantine in the district as of today while three were admitted to hospitals for observation.

Around 38,051 people have been inspected, so far, here in this district.

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Police have submitted over 50 videos in a pen drive to Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha as evidence to violent protests that led to police firing on December 19 in which Jaleel and Nausheen died.

ACP and police nodal officer Belliyappa submitted a pen drive consisting over 50 video clips including CCTV footage. 

The police earlier had submitted 20 digital video recorder (DVR) before the court and an acknowledgement of the same was produced before the Magistrate.

Hearing on video evidence will be held at High Court on February 24.

Shivamogga, Jan 15: Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa announced here on Wednesady that he will present the state budget on March 5.

Speaking to media here at his Shekaripura residence, he said this will the first budget of Yediyurappa government after coming to power in July this year and it is going to be his seventh budget presentation.

Budget preparation are going on and priority will be given to farmers in the budget.
