December 28, 2013

Arvind_KejriwalNew Delhi, Dec 28: Around 1,600 Delhi Police personnel will keep tight vigil at Ramlila Ground on Saturday where Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal will be sworn in as seventh chief minister of the national capital.

The security wing will secure the stage where Delhi lieutenant governor Najeeb Jung will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Kejriwal and six other ministers, only the second time it is being done at a public function.

In 1996, BJP leader Sahib Singh Verma had taken oath at a ceremony in Chhatrasal Stadium.

In order to ensure foolproof security, different units of Delhi Police have been entrusted with separate jobs.

A central control room has been set up at the venue for real-time monitoring and to ensure proper coordination among security personnel. Senior Delhi police officials will be present in the control room to supervise the entire event.

Arrangements related to law and order and crowd management will be the responsibility of the staff of the Central Range while the Traffic Police will make arrangements to regulate vehicular movements.

CCTV cameras have been installed at more than 20 strategic locations and spotters will be deployed during the event at neighbouring high-rise buildings.

Delhi Police commandos and bomb squads will also be deployed along with anti-riot police and vehicles at the venue.

The venue will be sanitized once this evening and again on Saturday morning by metal detectors and sniffer dogs. Other then the armed policemen in uniform, those in plain cloths will also be present among the crowd and around the venue during the event.

"We are expecting a turnout of 30 to 35 thousand for the swearing-in ceremony tomorrow. Sufficient security arrangements have been put in place. Every visitor will be frisked properly manually and doorframe metal detectors have been put in place at the entry gates of the venue," said a senior Delhi Police official.

Out of the five entry gates, one of them will be reserved for VIPs while three will be open for public entry. The fourth gate has been kept for contingency, police said.

Kejriwal had on Monday, during his meeting with Delhi LG Najeeb Jung expressed his desire to take oath at Ramlila Maidan, as the venue was associated with the Jan Lokpal movement and he also wanted the people to be part of the event.

Delhi Police had swung into action on Monday itself, even before the date was decided for the ceremony.

Senior Police Officials including Special Commissioner (Law and Order) Deepak Mishra, Joint commissioner (Central range) Sandeep Goel, DCP (central) Alok Verma along with a team of officials had inspected the venue on Monday to determine the kind of security apparatus needed to be put in place for the oath taking ceremony.

The officials then returned and a meeting was held in the Delhi Police headquarters which was headed by Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi and other senior officials where security arrangements for the swearing in ceremony were chalked out.

According to sources, senior officials are constantly reviewing the security arrangements at the venue and the exercise will go on till the very last minute to streamline the entire apparatus.

Kejriwal to pay homage at Rajghat before starting work

The Cabinet meeting is scheduled to take place at 2pm.

"After taking oath as Delhi's CM, I will call a cabinet meeting at 2pm on Saturday," the chief minister designate told reporters here.

Before going to the Delhi secretariat for the meeting, Kejriwal said that he will go to Rajghat to pay homage to the father of the nation.

Kejriwal said that he will also meet the transport department officials tomorrow to discuss the problems being faced by auto rickshaw drivers in Delhi.

Today, leaders of auto union met Kejriwal and put forth their twelve problems to which Kejriwal said he will look into after a meeting with the transport department officials.

Giving details of his schedule for Saturday, Kejriwal said that he will travel by metro from his house in Kaushambi to reach Barakhamba and from there he will reach Ramlila ground in his car for the swearing in ceremony.

He also said that he has spoken to Anna Hazare on Friday.

"I have spoken to Anna and he has said that he will not be able to attend the oath taking ceremony due to his ill health," Kejriwal said.

New Delhi, Feb 11: As the counting of votes for the Delhi Assembly polls began, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday raised doubts on EVMs, alleging that no machine having a chip is tamper-proof.

He called upon the Election Commission and the Supreme Court to take a fresh look at the use of EVMs in the country.

"No machine (which) has a chip is tamper-proof. Also please do for a moment think, why no developed country uses EVM," Singh said in a tweet.

"Would CEC and Hon Supreme Court please have a fresh look on EVM voting in India? We are the largest democracy in the world, we can't allow some unscrupulous people to hack results and steal the mandate of 1.3 billion people.

"If they match the votes in the counting unit. Declare the result. If they don't match then count the ballots of all polling booths in the assembly. It would convince everyone and save time also as this has been the consistent argument of CEC in favour of EVM," the Congress leader said.

Polling for the 70-member Delhi Assembly polls was held on Saturday.

The Election Commission on Sunday announced that the final voter turnout was 62.59 per cent, five per cent less than 2015.

Srinagar, Jun 30: On the deadly attack at Karachi Stock Exchange on Monday morning, a Kashmiri social activist and journalist warned that the incident is a stark reminder to all those in Pakistan supporting Jihad and attacked Pakistan prime minister Imran Khan for ignoring development agenda in Balochistan.

Yana Mir, the editor-in-chief of The Real Kashmir News, said, "Karachi Stock Exchange attack is a reminder to all those in Pakistan supporting Jihad. Remember @imrankhan that Youth is restless and they want development agenda. These young boys of BLA are also looking for a life which is settled and peaceful. Wake up Imran Khan and you Kashmiris also. Pakistan is going to finish you. Open your eyes."
Four heavily armed terrorists attacked the busy Pakistan Stock Exchange building in Karachi with grenades today, killing four security guards and a police officer before being shot dead in an exchange of fire, authorities said.

The terrorists, who arrived in a car, stormed the Karachi Stock Exchange building by firing indiscriminately and lobbed grenades at the main gate of the multi-storey building situated in the city's high-security commercial hub.

Balochistan is a well-known region rich in natural resources but the Balochis have always been deprived of basic facilities. No hospitals are available in Balochistan. If there are some then medical facilities and equipment are not available in hospitals. The education system is pathetic and similar is the case with the infrastructure: the roads, water system, agriculture and almost all fields of life.

It is pertinent to mention that enforced disappearances and abductions by the Pakistani military establishment have also been carried out regularly and for innumerable times in Balochistan. Leaders, activists, and vocal members of various student organizations have been detained by the security forces and kept in confinement. While others have been shot dead.

This crime against humanity has been going on for so long and so systematically in Balochistan that it has come to be considered as a normal state of affairs in the province. Many social and human rights activists have flagged the issue of oppression by the Pakistani establishment before the United Nations and other international agencies.

According to the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances, an entity established by the Pakistani government, about 5,000 cases of enforced disappearances have been registered since 2014. Most of them are still unresolved.

Independent local and international human rights organisations put the numbers much higher. Around 20,000 have reportedly been abducted only from Balochistan, out of which more than 2,500 have turned up dead as bullet-riddled dead bodies, bearing signs of extreme torture.

Before being elected as Prime Minister, Imran Khan had admitted in multiple interviews about the involvement of Pakistan's intelligence agencies in enforced disappearances as well as extrajudicial killings and vowed to resign if he was unable to put an end to the practice, holding those involved responsible. But times have passed and only reports are available to narrate the true story.

Jun 5: Meerut Police on Thursday claimed that around 13,500 mobile phones in the country are running on the same IMEI, the number used to identify the device.

A case of fraud has been registered against the mobile phone manufacturing company and its service center, the police said.

The matter surfaced, after police personnel gave his mobile phone to the staff at cybercrime cell for examination, as the new phone was not working properly despite being repaired, Meerut SP (city) Akhilesh N Singh said.

The cyber cell found that around 13,500 other mobile phones are also running on the same International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) as that of the police personnel's phone, the superintendent of police said.

He said the matter is a serious security issue.

Prima facie it appears to be negligence on part of the mobile phone company and criminals can use it to their advantage, Singh said.

He said a case has been registered under relevant sections of the law at a Medical police station and a team of experts has been called to look into the matter.
