Assault on woman cop: HC quashes FIR against minister CT Ravi, his associates

Bengaluru, Sept 5: The High Court of Karnataka has quashed the FIRs against Tourism minister C T Ravi and his 11 associates that were filed by the Chikkamagalur police pertaining to the destruction of public places and assault on a woman police officer during a protest way back in 2014.

Justice P S Dinesh Kumar was hearing a writ appeal filed by C T Ravi and other 11 BJP workers seeking quashing of FIR in the case. It was alleged that the minister and his party workers had vandalised the Chikkamagaluru deputy commissioner’s office and assaulted a woman PSI during a protest on September 7, 2014 to revoke the ban on sand mining and transportation of sand within the district.

It was contended that then MLA Ravi and his party workers had taken out a rally without any prior permission. During the protests, the windows of the office were damaged and a woman PSI was assaulted when she tried to stop the protesters from damaging the public property.

The police had filed cases under section 143, 147. 332, 427 and 149 of IPC and 31 (O) and 103 of Karnataka Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act 1984.

Advocate Arun Shyam Prasad represented the petitioners in the high court.

Madikeri, Mar 16: Three suspected cases of COVID-19, who returned from a foreign country recently have been admitted to the isolation ward of the district hospital here, the district administration said on Monday.

The samples of the suspected cases have been sent for lab tests and the reports are being awaited, sources said.

As many as 74 people have been placed under home quarantine in Kodagu (also known as Coorg) as a precautionary measure following their return from abroad, a press note from the Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy said.

Bengaluru, May 22: Karnataka government on Thursday said that there will be no inter-district check-posts for health screening in the State.

"There will be no inter-district check-posts for health screening in the State. Any health screening for passengers travelling by public transport -- buses and trains -- will be done at the origin of the journey and all those passengers found asymptomatic will be allowed to travel," reads the statement issued by the Commissionerate of Health and Family Welfare Services.

It further reads: "The agencies running public transport (KSRTC and others, Indian Railways, private bus operators) should ensure health screening of passengers before the start of the journey. There will be no health screening of passengers travelling by private vehicles across districts in Karnataka."

Bengaluru, Mar 29: The State government launched a mobile application for people to track the movement history of patients, who tested positive, before their detection so that they can take precautions. The app will give the date and time of visit to spots by the patients.

The mobile app “Corona Watch” can be downloaded from Google Playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ksrsac.drawshapefile

“The app also has a list of government designated first response hospitals for COVID-19 where citizen with symptoms can go. However, before going to a COVID hospital, people should call helplines — 104, 080-46848600 or 080-66692000,” said a message by Munish Moudgil, secretary, Administrative Reforms, who is also in-charge of the State COVID war room.
