Lucknow, Feb 25: BJP and BSP members on Monday tried to corner Uttar Pradesh government over the number of riots in the state and rehabilitation of Muzaffarnagar riot victims leading to a din and adjournment of the state Assembly.

The matter was raised during Question Hour by Congress member Anugrah Narain Singh, who sought to know from the government about the number of riots and those killed and injured in it in the state since 2009.

In his reply, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Azam Khan told the House that since 2009 four riots had taken place in which 57 persons were killed and 136 injured.

However, unsatisfied with the answer, BJP member Satish Mahana said that in earlier session, the government had informed the House that 27 riots had taken place and the present figure of only four riots was not correct.

Leader of the Opposition, Swami Prasad Maurya also asked the government to clear the figure on riots and claimed that as per IB report 115 riots took place in the state.

Mr. Maurya said that thousands of riot victims were living in a miserable condition under open sky in Muzaffarnagar and alleged that the state government was orchestrating riots in the state.

Saying that the government was not giving satisfactory reply over rehabilitation of riot victims, Mr. Maurya jumped into the Well of the House with BSP members raising anti-government slogans.

As BSP members returned to their seats on Speaker Mata Prasad Pandey’s request, Mr. Khan’s allegation that BSP men were involved in Muzaffarnagar riots and NSA was also invoked against them incited BJP members.

BJP leader Suresh Rana, who is accused of Muzaffarnagar riots, claimed that SP and BSP were hand in gloves and no action was taken against any BSP men in Muzaffaranagar.

“We will like to know how many BSP men were framed in the Muzaffarnagr riots... and how many of them were booked in NSA,” BJP legislative party leader Hukum Singh said as BJP members jumped into the Well.

In a bid to control the situation, Speaker Pandey said that on a remark of the minister, supplementary question could not be raised but after BJP members did not pay heed he adjourned the House of 10 mintues and extended it further to five minutes more.

Earlier, Mr. Azam Khan said that the state government was committed to check occurrence of riots in the state and necessary directives have been issued in this regard.

Thiruvananthapuram, Apr 27: BJP's Kerala state President K Surendran on Monday said it is 'highly irresponsible' of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to not attend PM's video conference with all chief ministers on prevailing COVID-19 situation earlier today.

"The Kerala Chief Minister not attending the important conference regarding a pandemic in the country is not good for the state," Surendran said.

The BJP state President believes Vijayan has sent a wrong message by not attending the conference.

"It is the irresponsible behavior of the Chief Minister. Prime Minister Narendra Modi says that team India is fighting this pandemic together. By not attending the meeting, the Kerala CM has sent a wrong message, " he added.

Surendran said that the meeting was of high priority as PM was meeting the state CM's regarding the important decision of lockdown in the country.

"From the last meeting, many things have changed. Other chief ministers who did not get a chance to speak, participated in the meeting. But Kerala CM chose not to attend the meeting and BJP condemns it, " he said.

Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan had not participated in the PM's video conference held earlier today and instead Kerala Chief Secretary Tom Jose represented the state in the meet.

According to sources, Kerala has given its suggestions in writing.

This was the fourth such interaction of the Prime Minister with the Chief Ministers, the earlier ones had been held on March 20, April 2, and April 11.

PM Modi in the meeting said the lockdown has yielded positive results as the country has managed to save thousands of lives in the past one and a half months.

New Delhi, Jul 20: Alleging that 2,426 companies have "looted" people's savings to the tune of Rs 1.47 lakh crore from banks, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has asked if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led government will conduct a probe into it to punish those guilty.

"2,426 companies looted 1.47 lakh crore rupees of people's savings from banks. Will this government investigate this loot and punish the culprits?" Gandhi said on Twitter, without elaborating.

"Or will it allow them to flee like Nirav and Lalit Modi?" he asked.

Gandhi's attack came after media reports claimed that the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) had released a list of 2,426 borrower accounts that have been categorised as “wilful defaulters” with dues amounting to Rs 1,47,350 crore to the banking system.
