Ataullah Jokatte re-elected DK SDPI president; here’s the new committee

Mangaluru, May 27: Ataullah Jokatte, who was serving as the interim president of Dakshina Kannada district unit of the Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) since February this year, has retained the post for the next three years.

The party’s district committee elections were held following the district level representatives meet at Freedom Community Hall in Mittur yesterday. Mr Jokatte launched the meet by hoisting the party flag and delivered introductory address.

District secretary Iqbal Bellare presented the triennial report (2016-18) on the activities of the party.

This was followed by the election of the new district committee for 2018-2021. The representatives from all eight assembly constituencies of the district cast their vote and elected a 15-member committee.

While Mr Jokatte retained his position, Iqbal Goodinabali and Antony P D were elected vice-presidents. Shahul Hameed S H and Iqbal Bellare were elected district general secretary and secretary respectively. Ashraf Manchi was elected treasurer and Noorulla Kulai was elected office-bearer.

Haneef Khan Kodaje, Anand Mittabail, Yusuf Aladka, Jabir Ariyadka, Akbar Belthangady, Ayaz Krishnapura, Muneeb Bengre, Zahid Malar were elected members of the district committee.

SDPI Karnataka state president Abdul Hannan and treasurer Sheikh Siraj supervised the election proceedings. Iqbal Bellare welcomed. Ashraf presented vote of thanks.

Bengaluru, Mar 9: The first case of Nov Corona patient was found in Karnataka with a 40 year-old Software Engineer, who returned from US, developing fever today at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in the City. This is the first case reported in the State.

Disclosing this to newsmen, Karnataka Minister for Medical Education Dr K Sudhakar said that the techie, his wife and their one child arrived from US on Feb 28 and were under observation.

He said that there were no indication or any symptoms immediately after their arrival and also for the first four days, but on March 5 the Techie developed fever and today (Monday) it was confirmed that he is suffering from the killer disease.

In the wake of the bomb found at Mangalore Airport on Monday morning, the team visited the railway station as a precautionary measure.

Kalaburagi, May 15: Former Karnataka Minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil and 22 others, including several local Congress leaders, have been booked for violating lockdown guidelines by conducting a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13.

The FIR was registered on Thursday against 23 persons, including the former MLA and 21 local Congress leaders, under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Congress leader Patil and his followers had conducted a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13, following which sectoral magistrate Muneer Ahmed lodged a complaint.

This comes as the country of under lockdown and the Centre and states have issued strict social distancing and other norms to be followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
