Auction gifted wrist watch: Poojary advices Siddaramaiah

Mangaluru, Feb 14: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s ‘expensive watch’, which he claimed to have received as a “gift”, has even fellow Congressmen take a jibe at him like Opposition leaders.

watch Senior Congress leader B. Janardhana Poojary, known for his blunt remarks, has asked the Chief Minister to auction the watch and donate the proceeds to families of soldiers, who died in Siachen recently.

Not long ago, Mr. Poojary asked Mr. Siddaramaiah to drop “lazy” Ministers from his Cabinet and speed up the administration at a party campaign in Mysuru. A staunch loyalist of the Gandhi clan, Mr. Poojary demanded to know what answer the Chief Minister would offer if the party high command sought an explanation about the “gift”.

Being the Chief Minister, he should have been more careful while accepting gifts and should be a role model to others, he said.

Seems like the Chief Minister may need some time out from his time machine controversy.

Two injured as truck laden with poultry feed catches fire in Bantwal

Bantwal, Apr 29: Two people were injured after the truck laden with poultry feed rammed into the compound wall of after catching fire on Wednesday, at Marnabailu near Melkar.

Police said the injured were the driver and an assistant in the truck. They were admitted to a private hospital at Mangaluru.

However, it is not yet clear whether the truck transporting poultry feed from a company at Kandur caught fire after colliding against the electric pole or with the compound wall.

Eid al-Fitr on Sunday, May 24 in coastal Karnataka

Mangaluru/Udupi, May 22: Two prominent Qadhis of coastal Karnataka today declared that Eid al-Fitr will be observed in the region on Sunday, May 24.

Twaqa Ahmed Musliyar, the Qadhi of Mangaluru and Ibrahim Musliyar Bekal, Qadhi of Udupi Samyukta Jamaat in their separate statements made this announcement.

The decision was taken as there was no news of new moon sighting in the coastal region today.

Ullal Qadhi Qurrathussadath Seyyid Fazal Koyamma Thangal Al Bukhari also announced that 24th May is first of Shawwal and Eid al Fithr will be celebrated on that day.

Moon sighting for the start of the month of Ramazan, for end of fastings- Eidul Fitr, for the month of Hajj and Muharram:

The moon sighting is so easy. We the people of India and have Indian Standard Time all.over India.

When we can accept the moon sighting in Delhi and announcement from Delhi as it was during times of Radio and Doordarshan news, why can we not accept the sighting of moon in coastal region of Karnataka and in Kerala?

Let us bring about change for good.

Why is rest of Karnataka or India not joining for Eid with coastal region and kerala? At the time of Radio and Dorrdarshan only days, all of India used to wait for 8.00 pm news for updates of moon sighting. So why not accept the moon signing witnesses in Kerala or coastal region?

I request all Indians to accept the witnessing of Moon sighting in any area of India and start and end Fasting.

Ivan D’Souza back in Mangaluru as lawyer as he completes MLC tenure with 100% attendance

Mangaluru, June 24: Congress leader Ivan D’Souza has vowed to serve the poor and practice as a lawyer in the city, as he completed six years of tenure as a member of Karnataka legislative council on June 23.

Expressing satisfaction about his work as an MLC, he said: “I’m one among the three MLCs who have 100% attendance in the council. Meanwhile, I’m the only council member to utilise the privilege of raising five questions in each session. I brought several major issues to the government through the questions and succeeded in finding solutions to the problems of people.”

“During my six years of tenure as a council member, I could bring sanctions to the tune of Rs 46 crore through various departments. Meanwhile, financial aid to the tune of Rs 13.24 crore has been distributed through Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to nearly 1,600 beneficiaries. I will continue to serve the poor on my own as an individual. For this, I have set up an office in the premises of my house,” Ivan said, adding that he has distributed grocery kits and other essential items to over 18,000 families during the lockdown period.

“I have successfully fulfilled my duties as the chief whip of the government in the council and also as the parliamentary secretary to revenue department in Siddaramaiah and H D Kumaraswamy governments, respectively,” he said.

Ivan said his office in the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) building will be handed over to JD(S) MLC S L Boje Gowda. “My doors are always open for the people. I will strive to build the party in the state,” he added.
