Auto drivers, owners accuse Modi govt of making their lives difficult

Bhatkal, Jan 24: The Auto-rickshaw Drivers and Owners Association staged a protest here accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-union government is of imposing unnecessary and hefty feel and exploiting the poor auto-rickshaw drivers. The representatives of the association submitted a memorandum to the government through the Assistant Commissioner.auto-m

The protestors condemned the anti-people policy of the union government to hike the insurance policy price amidst continuous hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel and demanded for the immediate withdrawal of the same.

“The insurance policy premium has been raised about 200% along with the hikes of petrol and diesel prices. Permission renewal fees and permit fees also have been raised and this policy of the government has affected badly the poor auto drivers and owners. Auto-rickshaws are a major means of transportation in Bhatkal. We are met with injustice when we were expecting some kind of benefits from the government. We request the government to withdraw the hike of fees immediately,” reads the memorandum.

Manjunath, Bhatkal AC received the memorandum. Venkatesh Naik, president of Auto-rickshaw drivers and owners association, Shridhar Naik and others lead the agitation.

cmon guys ... its not the reason :) bhatkal which is a terror hub and which is very much infamous for its anti india activities ... now their main economy is hit due to demonetization .. so business is down ... before we used to hear 100's of guys from this town indulging in anti social( smuggling , killings , jihad, drugs , hawala) and terror activities ... now papa ... gara badida haage aagide ... hahaha... auto walas must protest against KL registration autos who dont pay tax and run autos here .. not for insurance ... insurance is for safety ... Shivamogga, Jun 13: Senior BJP leader and Karnataka Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Raj, K S Eshwarappa on Saturday opined that during the selection of candidates to the legislative council, the party needs to take into consideration those who helped the party in formation of government in the State.

Speaking to media persons on the sideline of a programme here, he said the party high command would give another surprise while issuing tickets during the MLC election.

Mr Eshwrappa said that party high command will take a call on selecting candidates, but priority should be given to the leader who won on Congress and Janata Dal and then jumped to BJP which helped to form govt under the leadership of B S Yediyurappa.

Bengaluru, Aug 5: Touted as a first of its kind in the nation, a mobile Covid-19 lab was inaugurated on Wednesday by the Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar.

The lab, approved by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) can do 9,000 RT-PCR (reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction) tests per month, an official press release said here. "This is a unique lab having all safety features and capable of producing 100% accurate results within four hours," Dr Sudhakar was quoted as saying in the press release.

The Indian Institute of Science (IISC) had developed the lab and handed it over to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS).

The mobile lab can also be used for molecular diagnostic-testing and can be deployed in coronavirus hot spots quickly, the release said adding, apart from Covid-19, the lab can be utilised for testing H1N1, HCV, TB, HPV and HIV among others.

Mangaluru, Jun 14: A 26-year-old man, who had recently returned to Mangaluru from Maharashtra, succumbed to coronavirus today. With this number of covid-19 deaths in the coastal district of Dakshina Kannada rose to eight.

After returning from Mumbai, he had undergone institutional quarantine on May 28 and 29. Later, he was under home quarantine as he was suffering from kidney related ailment. He completed his home quarantine on June 10.

On June 12, the youth was admitted to the private hospital in the city due to kidney related ailment. He did not respond to treatment and died.

His throat swab sample was tested after which it was confirmed that he was having coronavirus infection also.
