Auto drivers, owners accuse Modi govt of making their lives difficult

Bhatkal, Jan 24: The Auto-rickshaw Drivers and Owners Association staged a protest here accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-union government is of imposing unnecessary and hefty feel and exploiting the poor auto-rickshaw drivers. The representatives of the association submitted a memorandum to the government through the Assistant Commissioner.auto-m

The protestors condemned the anti-people policy of the union government to hike the insurance policy price amidst continuous hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel and demanded for the immediate withdrawal of the same.

“The insurance policy premium has been raised about 200% along with the hikes of petrol and diesel prices. Permission renewal fees and permit fees also have been raised and this policy of the government has affected badly the poor auto drivers and owners. Auto-rickshaws are a major means of transportation in Bhatkal. We are met with injustice when we were expecting some kind of benefits from the government. We request the government to withdraw the hike of fees immediately,” reads the memorandum.

Manjunath, Bhatkal AC received the memorandum. Venkatesh Naik, president of Auto-rickshaw drivers and owners association, Shridhar Naik and others lead the agitation.

cmon guys ... its not the reason :) bhatkal which is a terror hub and which is very much infamous for its anti india activities ... now their main economy is hit due to demonetization .. so business is down ... before we used to hear 100's of guys from this town indulging in anti social( smuggling , killings , jihad, drugs , hawala) and terror activities ... now papa ... gara badida haage aagide ... hahaha... auto walas must protest against KL registration autos who dont pay tax and run autos here .. not for insurance ... insurance is for safety ... Bengaluru, Apr 11: Karnataka Congress chief D K Shivakumar on Saturda said that he was hopeful that the Karnataka Chief Minister would take stern action against BJP MLA M Jayaram--who was on Friday seen celebrating his birthday with several villagers in Gubbi taluk in Tumkur, in violation of social isolation measures and nationwide lockdown to fight the coronavirus outbreak.

"I am sure that the Chief Minister will take action on all these types of activities. We have already petitioned the DGP. Suo moto case should be registered immediately," the Karnataka Congress Chief told media.

Speaking about the video conference meeting that Congress President Sonia Gandhi held with all Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) presidents via video conference, he said: "She has given us directions that the party has to play its own role. She said that the party needs to be very active, apart from the government."

With regards to the farmer's struggles due to the national lockdown, the Karnataka Congress Chief said that the farmers are in a 'very grim situation'. "I appeal to all the people of Karnataka that we should go to the fields and discuss with farmers and buy the materials. Let us purchase their fruits and vegetables and distribute them at the village level."

Bengaluru, Jul 8: 15 police personnel from Bangalore's Whitefield division tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.

Out of these, 12 are from the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) police station, sources said.

A total of 27 police staff of the Whitefield division have tested positive so far and five have been discharged. The HAL police station closed on June 27 after one police staff tested COVID positive. All personnel of the police station were tested in the following days and 12 tests returned positive.

Madikeri, Apr 27: Four labourers, who were travelling to Kerala via Makutta on foot, were stopped by Karnataka Forest Department officials and handed over to police.

Police said on Monday that the labourers identified as Anish, Radhakrishna, Shrinil and Prabhakar, who were working in the Coffee plantations in Chembellur and Ontiyangadi. As the roads to Kerala were sealed following lockdown, they were held up in the district.

The forest guards, who spotted them walking through the forest area, brought them back to the town as per the directions of the higher officials last evening. DCF Shivashankar, ACF Konerira Roshni and Ranger Arun Kumar were present.
