Auto drivers, owners accuse Modi govt of making their lives difficult

Bhatkal, Jan 24: The Auto-rickshaw Drivers and Owners Association staged a protest here accusing Prime Minister Narendra Modi led-union government is of imposing unnecessary and hefty feel and exploiting the poor auto-rickshaw drivers. The representatives of the association submitted a memorandum to the government through the Assistant Commissioner.auto-m

The protestors condemned the anti-people policy of the union government to hike the insurance policy price amidst continuous hikes in the prices of petrol and diesel and demanded for the immediate withdrawal of the same.

“The insurance policy premium has been raised about 200% along with the hikes of petrol and diesel prices. Permission renewal fees and permit fees also have been raised and this policy of the government has affected badly the poor auto drivers and owners. Auto-rickshaws are a major means of transportation in Bhatkal. We are met with injustice when we were expecting some kind of benefits from the government. We request the government to withdraw the hike of fees immediately,” reads the memorandum.

Manjunath, Bhatkal AC received the memorandum. Venkatesh Naik, president of Auto-rickshaw drivers and owners association, Shridhar Naik and others lead the agitation.

cmon guys ... its not the reason :) bhatkal which is a terror hub and which is very much infamous for its anti india activities ... now their main economy is hit due to demonetization .. so business is down ... before we used to hear 100's of guys from this town indulging in anti social( smuggling , killings , jihad, drugs , hawala) and terror activities ... now papa ... gara badida haage aagide ... hahaha... auto walas must protest against KL registration autos who dont pay tax and run autos here .. not for insurance ... insurance is for safety ... Gadag, May 9: It is the month of April, and the season of mangoes is very much here. However, the mango farmers of Gadag are suffering huge losses amid the coronavirus lockdown due to the absence of transportation facilities along with several other issues that have been impacting their business adversely.

Speaking to media persons, Vishwanath Odugowdar, a mango farmer said, "Due to transportation problems we are not being able to export mangoes to different countries. We are trying to sell them in nearby markets."

"We are not in a situation to pack, transport and export the mangoes to different countries as we did earlier especially 
when it comes to Alphonso mangoes which is one of the most loved varieties. So, we are packing mangoes at our place. Somehow this year we have got very good quality of mangoes," he added.

Farmers here are incurring huge losses as mandis and markets across the country are shut while the transport of Alphonso mangoes has also come to a halt owing to the lockdown.

The small and medium scale farmers in places like Gadag, Dharwad, Bagalkote in north Karnataka have started packing the mangoes themselves in their farms in a bid to sell the fruit themselves.

Mangaluru, Jan 25: Hotelier Samtappa reportedly committed suicide by consuming poison in Kadaba taluk in the district on police said on Saturday.

The deceased was running a hotel named Hotel Samtappa here.

Bengaluru, May 8: Karnataka Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar along with Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday visited Kempegowda International airport for inspection of the screening facility as over 10,000 people from Karnataka stranded in other countries are scheduled to arrive in the state. 

Sudhakar said all safety measures have been taken for the screening and quarantine of all passengers in hotels, hostels, and school buildings.

He appealed to local residents not to panic as adequate safety measures are being taken to prevent any spread of COVID-19 infection.
