Mangaluru, Jul 21: A B Ibrahim, who served the Dakshina Kannada district as its Deputy Commissioner for over two-and-a-half years, has been transferred with immediate effect.

DCYoung IAS officer Dr K G Jagadeesha, will replace him as the new Deputy Commissioner of this coastal district. 38-year-old Jagadeesha (KN-2005) was serving as the Managing Director, Rajiv Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation Limited, Bengaluru till now.

Mr Ibrahim has been posted as the Commissioner for Transport and Road Safety, Bengaluru in the existing vacancy relieving Dr Ramegowda, IAS, of concurrent charge.

Leaving with satisfaction

Responding to the fresh transfer order, Mr Ibrahim said that he is leaving the coastal district with an amount of satisfaction having been able to accomplish some of the tasks he intended to perform.

During his tenure, he said, in order to decongest Mangaluru city, he initiated measures to shift the district office complex and the bus stand outside the city. “I am happy that the process of shifting district office is on,” he said.

All the more, Mr. Ibrahim is happy to be recognised as a “people's DC” for his simple style of functioning and being accessible to the general public in the district.

He took the initiative of providing basic amenities to the Male Kudiya tribe in Banjarumale in Belthangady taluk, who were completely cut off from the mainstream for decades now.

Mr. Ibrahim, being the Chairman of the Dr. K. Shivaram Karanth Pilikula Nisargadhama Society, conceived the idea of holding monthly festivals depending upon the season at the park to make it one of the major tourist attractions.

The initiative has been yielding results with more tourists visiting the nisargadhama every day and the pilikula being recognised across the state.

Though he is leaving the district without any major bad remarks, he said being a highly communally sensitive district, working in Dakshina Kannada was itself a major challenge. “However, I am happy that I have done justice to all without any discrimination,” he said.

He had made every effort to restore the glory of Dakshina Kannada as a major education and tourist hub.

Mangaluru, May 13: Union Minister and former Karnataka chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda today assured that he will exert pressure on the authorities concerned to operate more repatriate flights to bring back Kannadigas from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka.

Speaking in a video conference organised by coastaldigest.com with Kannadiga delegates in Saudi Arabia, Mr Gowda said: “Today itself I will contact the external affairs ministry and Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to convince them the need to add operate flights to bring back stranded Kannaidgas from the Kingdom.

After paying heed to the advices, requests and concerns of Kannadiga delegates that participated in the video conference, Mr Gowda said: “Two things need to be done. First thing is number of flights from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka should be increased. Second thing is to ensure that most of these flights land in the Mangaluru Airport as most of the Kannadiga expats in Saudi Arabia are from the coastal region.

“There should be at least two to three flights from Saudi Arabia to Karnataka (Bengaluru Airport or Mangaluru Airport) every week. That is my intention,” he added.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: Firebrand BJP Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya on Wednesday said that control of state power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma.

His comments, in a series of tweets, came on a day Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the Lord Ram temple at Ayodhya.

"Dear Hindus, Most important lesson is that control of State power by Hindus is absolutely essential for sustenance of Dharma. When we didn't control State, we lost our temple. When we regained, we rebuilt. The 282 (seats) in 2014 and 303 (seats) in 2019 to Sri Narendra Modi made today possible!", Surya, who is also the party's BJP youth Wing state general secretary, tweeted.

He also said that the survival of India depends on the survival of Sanatana Dharma.

"The Sanatana Dharma, that is nationalism,' Sri Aurobindo had said in his Uttarapara speech. But what does it mean? Along with Jai Sri Ram, the purohits also chanted Bharat Mata Ki Jai - That is Dharmic nationalism. If Dharma survives, India survives," he said in another tweet.
