Babri dispute: World peace delegation calls for consensus solution

Ayodhya, Jan 8: Members of world peace delegation has visited Babri Masjid site and suggested a consensus solution to resolve Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute.

Under the leadership of Vishwanath Karad, MIT World Peace University Pune, the 11-member world peace delegation visited the disputed site in Ayodhya.

The vice-chancellor of the Nalanda University, Vijay Bhatkar, president of MIT World Peace University, Vishwanath Karad, former vice-chancellor of Nagpur University, S.N. Pathan, Senior Journalist Vedpratap Vaidik, Senior Scientist Rajendra Ende, former Union Minister Arif Mohammad Khan Firoz Bakht Ahmed and Supreme Court advocate Siraj Quraishi participated in the delegation.

Addressing a press conference, the delegation stressed upon solving the long-standing matter amicably.

The main aim of the world peace delegation is to build a world religious shriram humanity building at the disputed site so that Ayodhya can give a message of humanity and world peace in the entire world.

The Supreme Court will continue the final hearing of the case on February 8.

New Delhi, Mar 19: Lawyer of Mukesh Singh, who is one of the four death row convicts in the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, on Thursday mentioned a petition before the Registrar of the Supreme Court seeking an urgent hearing in the matter.

Advocate Manohar Lal Sharma, through the petition, sought directions to bring call record, documents and reports of his client through any probe agency and passed appropriate directions and measure to ensure justice in the matter.

The petition, however, has not sought a stay on the execution, which is scheduled for the morning of March 20. The petition is likely to be taken up for hearing today.

Earlier today, the apex court dismissed the curative petition of Pawan Gupta, another convict in the matter, who claimed juvenility at the time of the crime.

This comes as the four convicts -- Mukesh Singh, Akshay Singh Thakur, Vinay Sharma and Pawan Gupta -- are scheduled to be hanged at 5.30 am on March 20.

Meanwhile, several other petitions are also pending in the matter in different courts.

The case pertains to the brutal gang-rape and killing of a 23-year-old paramedical student in a moving bus on the night of December 16, 2012, by six people including a juvenile in the national capital. The woman had died at a Singapore hospital a few days later.

Geneva, Jul 2: The World Health Organization (WHO) has estimated the overall number of coronavirus cases globally at 10,357,662, with 508,055 people having died from the disease.

The UN health agency said in the situation report published on late Wednesday that 163,939 new cases had been recorded in the past day, while further 4,188 patients had died.

Americas continue to lead the count with over 5.2 million cases, followed by Europe with more than 2.7 million.

The WHO declared the COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic on March 11.
