Karkala, Jan 31: Four Bajarang Dal activists have been arrested for setting a ‘chador’ on fire at Tipu Sultan cave at Parpale Gudde of Karkala taluk in Udupi district.
The arrested have been identified as Bajarang Dal town convener Anil Prabhu and his accomplices Akshaya Shetty Doopadakatte, Raghavendra Gundaje, Athmananda. Three other accused-Ranjan, Ganesh and Deepu Nakre-are absconding.
They set the chador on fire on Friday with intension of creating communal unrest in the vicinity, police sources said.
Sources said that a few Muslims offer prayer on Fridays and Sundays at the cave which is known as ‘Tipu Sultan Cave’. However, saffron groups in recent days started calling it as ‘Ambarish cave’ and ‘Krishna Giri’.
Udupi SP Annaimalai, Karkala ASP Dr Sumana have visited the spot.
