New Delhi, Sept 30: RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat alleged on Saturday that the state governments of West Bengal and Kerala are "on the side of jihadi elements that are perpetrating the violence" there.

Bhagwat further said that Rohingya Muslim refugees in India are a threat to the country's security.

The RSS chief even weighed in on cow protection, saying laws shouldn't be broken towards this goal. Many Muslims, he said, have sacrificed their lives for cow protection "just as people of the Bajrang Dal" have.

A large part of his address focussed on nationalism and safeguarding it.

"Jihadi elements are acting out their violence in Kerala and Bengal, and while people are resisting, the state governments are supporting these anti-national forces by not fulfilling their duty, they (state governments) are on their side" said Bhagwat in an address on the anniversay of the RSS's formation.

The RSS chief said all efforts must be made to not risk the country's safety and sovereignty.

"They (Rohingya) were sent packing from Myanmar because they were involved in terrorism".

To those who support the Rohingya refugees being allowed to stay in India on humanitarian grounds, Bhagwat had this to say: "We must remember that in the name of humanity we mustn't forget that our humanity is threatened".

The Rohingya will be a burden on India in more ways than one, said Bhagwat.

"We had not even completely solved the problem of Bangladeshi intrusion when problem of Myanmar has been heaped on us. If we let such people (Rohingya) stay here, they will not only be a burden on employment but also pose threat to our national security," said Bhagwat, adding that refigees will burden India's economy.

Bhagwat made a connection between the economy and cow protection.

"Rearing of cow is not a matter of religion. I know many Muslims are involved in rearing and protection of cows. For progress of small farmer, rearing of cow is a must. Protecting cow and cow-based agriculture is directed by Constitution," said the RSS chief.

Bhagwat extolled other virtues of cow-protection, but added that violence is "reprehensible" in the name of cow protection.

"It is reprehensible that some people have been killed allegedly by gaurakshaks. In fact violence of any form is reprehensible," he said.

Mangaluru, July 30: The Social Democratic Party of India has condemned the move by the state government to drop a lesson on legendary Mysuru rulers Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan from the class 7 textbook.

The Department of Public Instruction has omitted the chapter from the textbooks of Class 7 in their attempt to reduce syllabus for state board schools by 30 per cent.

The department, however, has decided to retain similar chapters on Tipu Sultan in 6th and 10th Classes, though the syllabus in text books for all classes from 1 to 10th has been trimmed.

In a media release statement, SDPI State President Ilyas Mohammed Thumbe termed the move as communally motivated. “By dropping the lesson, the BJP-led government is engaged in saffronisation of education,” he alleged.

He said that Tipu was the most prominent freedom fighter, who had given priority to irrigation, rocket technology and harmony. The BJP government is also planning to scrap lessons on the Constitution, secularism and democracy. By twisting history, the BJP is trying to mislead the younger generation, he added.

Jehanabad, Jan 27: The police here carried out a raid at the ancestral house of anti-CAA activist Sharjeel Imam, who has been slapped with a sedition case in the national capital for alleged inflammatory speeches he gave at Shaheen Bagh and the Jamia Milia Islamia, a senior official said on Monday.

According to Superintendent of Police, Jehanabad, Manish Kumar, Imams house in Kako police station area was raided late on Sunday night following "help sought by central agencies" which are investigating the cases lodged against the JNU research scholar.

Imam was not found at his house but two of his relatives and their driver were detained for interrogation and let off thereafter, the SP said.

A graduate in computer science from IIT-Mumbai, Sharjeel Imam had shifted to Delhi for pursuing research at the Centre for Historical Studies, JNU.

He was slapped with a sedition case after his alleged speeches went viral on the social media wherein he was heard speaking about Assam's possible secession from the country in the wake of the Citienship (Amendment) Act (CAA).

Earlier, he had been booked on similar charges at a police station in Aligarh for a speech he delivered on the AMU campus.

Besides, a case under the stringent anti-terror law UAPA has been registered against him at Assam.

Imams late father Akbar Imam was a local JD(U) leader who had unsuccessfully contested an assembly election in his lifetime.

Reacting to the developments, his distraught mother Afshan Rahim told the media, "My son is innocent. He is a bright young man and not a thief or a pickpocket. I swear in the name of God that I do not know about his whereabouts. But I can guarantee that upon learning about the cases, he will appear before the investigating agencies and fully cooperate in the probe."

She said that it has been a long time since she met her son though she had a telephonic conversation with him a few weeks ago.

"He was obviously disturbed by the CAA and fears of the National Register of Citiznes (NRC) about being implemented across the country which, he said, would affect not just Muslims but all poor people," she said.

In fact, after 15 days of Shaheen Bagh protest, he had asked the agitators there to withdraw and watch the situation for a month, and then decide on the further course of action, she said. "But they refused to relent. He was calling for a 'chakkajam' (road blockade). He is just a kid and not capable of instigating people for secession," she added.
