Bakery owner brutally stabbed by gang in Ullal

Mangaluru, Jul 30: The proprietor of a sweet bakery shop was critically injured after he was assaulted and stabbed by a gang of miscreants, including a notorious criminal, on Wednesday late night at Mastikatte area in the coastal town of Ullal in Mangalur taluk.

stabbed30-year-old Abdul Salam was rushed to a private hospital soon after the incident. Reliable source said that he was out of danger and responding to the treatment.

According to police sources, four masked men barged into the bakery all of a sudden in the night and stabbed the youth multiple times in his hand, neck and stomach. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Thokkottu and then he was shifted to the intensive care unit of Unity Health Complex in Mangaluru.

It is learnt that two of the assailants have been identified as Fayaz and Kori Haris, residents of Ullal. Fayaz is reportedly facing nearly a dozen criminal cases. He is also an accused in Kanchan Textiles manager Dinesh Raj murder case.

Sources said that Abdul Salam had reportedly complained to police against Fayaz and his associates for giving trouble to shop keepers and customers in Mastikatte area of Ullal.

The Ullal and surrounding areas have witnessed a series of stabbing incidents in recent weeks. The fresh incident of stabbing created tense atmosphere for sometime in the region.

Bengaluru, Jun 25: State-run Kumara Krupa Guest House in the city will be used as 100-bed COVID-19 treatment center for the designated category patients, Karnataka Health Department Sources said here on Thursday.

According to official sources, one wing of the Guest House with 100-bed rooms of individual occupancy having all the facilities is reserved to work as Covid Care Center (CCC) and it will be used for Ministers, MPs, MLAs/MLCs, Senior officers of above Secretary rank for clinical management.

The total number of positive cases reported till date in the State has increased to 10,118, the sources added.

Bengaluru, Mar 29: Escoms have been directed neither to penalise its customers nor go for disconnection if one fails to pay the bill. The relief is applicable till June. However, the entire bill will have to be paid at the end of three months.

The revised power tariff, which was to be announced on April 1, has also been deferred.

A similar three-month relief has been given on rentals for APMC and BBMP shops.

Bantwal, Feb 2: A 45-year-old man was found murdered in a parked Innova car at Shantinagar near Nagri in Sajipa Munnur in Bantwal taluk today. 

The deceased has been identified as Tasleem, a native of Kerala who was wanted in a few criminal cases. He was, according to reports, a member of Kerala's notorious Ziya. 

Tasleem was an accused in Kalia Rafiq murder in Ullal (2017). He was arrested last year in connection with a jewellery store robbery case registered in Mangaluru North police station and was sent to Kalaburagi prison. He was later released on bail. 

Police are of the suspicion that a rival gang might have kidnapped him, tried to strangle him and then stabbed him in the stomach, before fleeing the spot.

The car had been parked at the spot since morning. The locals who grew suspicious at this informed the police. Circle inspector T D Nagaraj and other officers conducted spot investigation.
