Baliga murder: Photographer Manujanth arrested for harbouring NaMo Naresh

Mangaluru, May 29: The Manglauru police have arrested another accused in connection with the cold blooded murder of an RTI activist, who had taken on a temple and builders. This is the fifth arrest in connection with the case.

1manjunath K Manujanth Shenoy, alias Manju Neereshwalya, (39) was arrested on Sunday on the charge of harbouring Naresh Shenoy, the prime accused in the same case. He is photographer by profession.

Naresh Shenoy, the founder of local unit of NaMo Brigade, has been absconding since the murder of 51-year-old RTI activist Vinayak Baliga.

In a press note, the police said that Manju Neereshwalya was in constant touch with Naresh Shenoy, whom the police wanted to question in connection with the murder.

The police said that Manju Neereshwalya was informing Naresh Shenoy of the developments in the case and helping him hide.

Vinayak Baliga was hacked to death near his house in Kodialbail on March 21. The police have arrested Vineet Poojary, Nishit Devadiga, Shiva, alias Shivaprasad, and Shailesh (40).

The police said that they are still looking for Naresh Shenoy.

Milk collection stopped in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts

Mangaluru, Mar 29: Dakshina Kannada Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union Limited in a statement announced that their milk collection centres across Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts will be closed on March 29 and 30.

Due to a shortage of storage space with them, the Union has decided to stop collecting milk on these two days, according to the statement issued here on Saturday.

The sale/retail of milk and milk products won’t be affected in these two days.

Vidya Dinker, Naveenchandra to participate in national level consultation on Urban Governance

Mangalore, Jan 21: Former city councillor and social activists Naveenchandra and social activist Vidya Dinker have been invited to participate in two-day National Level Consultation on Urban Governance which will take place on January 22 and 23 at Juniper Hall, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi.

Urban governance stakeholders of 20 states and one union territory will be participating in this national level consultative seminar. The participants will include elected representatives, NGO representatives and urban planning experts. The seminar is being organised by Mumbai based Prajna Foundation, which has undertaken an in-depth study of the governance of the 20 states and one union territories.

Having served several terms as a corporator of Mangaluru City Corporation, Naveenchandra is knowledgeable in matters relating to urban governance. He is very popular in his constituency. Vidya Dinker is a well known city based social activist. She is the Coordinator, Citizens Forum for Mangalore Development.

Vidya Dinker I can understand but Naveen i don't know on what qualifications and credentials he has been selected and to say he is Popular in his constituency is a Misnormer . Just visit kambla ward once and speak to people and you can understand it better !!!

Schoolteacher faces case for spreading child mispronunciation video

Bengaluru, Jan 10: State’s primary and secondary education minister, S Suresh Kumar on Friday asked the Department of Public Instruction to register a complaint in the cybercrime police station against the teacher who shared a video of a child mispronouncing a Kannada word.

The viral video shows the child from a government school incorrectly pronouncing the word 'Pakkelubu' (ribcage).

The minister observed, 'It is normal for children to pronounce words incorrectly and only repetitive practise will make them say it correctly. If a video of such a mistake is made and spread on the Internet the child will see it in future and be demoralised and might start hate learning. The person who made and posted this video has committed a grave crime.
