Ban hits two-wheeler market in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Nov 4: The state government's decision to stop registering new bikes below 100cc capacity with seats for pillion riders has hit the two-wheeler market hard with sales across the state coming down by Rs 50 crore.

The figure was given by an office-bearer of State Motor Vehicles Sellers' Association. "About 30,000 bikes below 100cc capacity are sold every month. Ever since the bar on registration of the vehicles came into force, in the last 10 days, an estimated 10,000 vehicles have remained unsold, affecting business," he said.

"There are many authorised dealers with about 500 main franchises of major companies. The stock of two-wheelers in their storerooms have not moved. We have taken their views on writing and given a representation to the major companies," he said.

Stressing that there was a huge demand for below-100cc bikes, he said many who bought such vehicles during Deepavali were returning them to the showrooms. "We have no other option other than providing an alternative vehicle or returning the money. The showrooms are suffering a great deal of operational loss," he said.

Once again Bengaluru witnesses massive protest against CAA, NRC, NPR

Bengaluru, Jan 21: A massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) was witnessed at Shivajinagar's Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday.

Scores of people came together carrying national flags and placards to register their protest in the city.

Speaking to ANI, a protester said, "People of all religious community have assembled here in Chandni Chowk to protest against CAA, NRC, and NPR. We the people of India are against this law."

Terming the law as anti-constitutional, he said that we support all the states who oppose the CAA. We demand the revocation of CAA and the government should remove conditions in NPR which lead to NRC.

CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.

New findings: Over 100 sculptures recovered in Mysuru

Mysuru, Jan 5: The ongoing pilot project on documentation of all unprotected monuments in Mysuru taluk has yielded significant results with over 100 sculptures recovered from the rural hinterland.

Launched by the Karnataka Department of Archaeology, Museums and Heritage, the project will help map and document the number of monuments in the Taluk. Based on their importance, they will be added to the protected list.

Sources in the Archaeology department said so far the team has completed mapping of monuments in two Hoblis--Varuna and Jayapura.

Govt takes up issue of establishing US consulate in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 27: Union Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan on Wednesday said the Union Government will take up the issue of establishing a US consulate in Bengaluru during bilateral talks with the US officials in the future.

Speaking at a seminar on Videsh Sampark here, Mr Muraleedharan said after Delhi and Mumbai, a large number of visa applications come from Bengaluru. “We will take up the issue of establishing a US consulate in Bengaluru during bilateral talks,” he said.

Earlier, the chief secretary of Karnataka TM Vijay Bhaskar urged the centre to consider the state government’s demand of setting up a US Consulate in Bengaluru. At the moment visa applicants have to travel to Chennai for the purpose.
