Bandipur traffic ban: Karnataka should boycott Rahul Gandhi, says Vatal Nagara

Mysuru, Oct 6: Pro Kannada activist and Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha (KCVP) party president Vatal Nagara said that Karnataka should boycott Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for supporting protests against the night traffic ban in Bandipur.

He also staged a protest outside the railway station in Mysore on Saturday in favour of the traffic ban.
 
"Rahul Gandhi must be boycotted in Karnataka as he's supporting the protest in Kerala against Bandipur night vehicles ban," Nagara said on Saturday.

He said that Gandhi supporting stir in Kerala against the traffic ban despite the Supreme Court order in the matter is unacceptable.

"Bandipur and the wildlife are assets of Karnataka. It's everyone's responsibility to protect it. But the timber mafia, which is orchestrating these protests in Kerala, is creating the ruckus to ensure that vehicles are allowed in Bandipur," he said.

"It is unfortunate that Kerala government is also supporting them," he added.

Nagara also said that their efforts should be made to safeguard the wildlife and forest instead of destroying it.

"No committee should be formed to build any roads or flyover in Bandipur either," he said.

Rahul Gandhi had joined the protesters, who are on an indefinite hunger strike opposing the daily nine-hour traffic ban on NH 766 that links Kerala and Karnataka, in Sultan Bathery here on Friday.

The protests had begun on September 25.

Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa had, on October 2, slammed Rahul Gandhi for supporting the protest despite the Supreme Court order and said that the ban will continue.

Bengaluru, May 19: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa-led Karnataka government has recommended the withdrawal of 46 cases against leaders belonging to Sangh Parivar who had apparently involved in violence during the birth anniversary celebration of Tipu Sultan in the state. 

These cases – ranging from very serious forms of assaults on Muslims to unlawful assembly – were registered across Karnataka between 2014 and 2018.

Among the cases recommended to be withdrawn include those registered against senior state BJP leader Sanjay Patil, VHP leader Swaroop Kalkundri, and several district level Bajrang Dal activists. 

The government recommended withdrawal of these cases under Section 321 of the Code of Criminal Procedure on March 5. 

The recommendations, however, have been opposed by three crucial law enforcement departments – Director General and Inspector General of Police (DG & IGP), Director-Department of prosecution and Government litigation and Law department. 

While the DG & IGP has opined that these cases “cannot be withdrawn”, both the department of prosecution and law have observed that these are “not a fit case to withdraw”.

New Delhi, July 29: The government of India today announced Unlock 3.0, lifting of night curfew from August 1 and opening of yoga institutes and gymnasiums from August 5 while educational institutes will remain closed throughout August.

According to the Unlock 3.0 guidelines issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the lockdown in containment zones will be extended until August 30. The new guidelines will be in effect from August 1.

The operation of Metro rail and international flights will remain suspended. Cinema halls, swimming pools, entertainment parks, theatres, bars, auditoriums, assembly halls and similar places will remain shut. Large gatherings are also prohibited.

Yoga institutes and gymnasiums will start operating from August 5 for which the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare will be issuing Standard Operating Procedures. 

Independence Day celebrations will be held with social distancing norms in place.

Restrictions on the movement of individuals during the night (Night curfew between 10 PM and 5 AM) have been removed.

According to the order, states have been given powers to prohibit certain activities outside containment zones or impose such restrictions as deemed necessary based on their assessment of the situation.

"However, there shall be no restriction on inter-state and intra-state movement of persons and goods. No separate permission/approval/e-permit will be required for such movements," the order said. 

In the previous two Unlock guidelines, the government had substantially opened various activities.

Shivamogga, Feb 6: A youth, who allegedly uploaded pornography and inappropriate videos of children on social media, was arrested by the district CEN police after a tip-off from the CyberTipline.

The accused is a resident of Sorab taluk and is said to be below 18 years. He uploaded the objectionable content during April and May last year. He was traced based on the IP address of his computer and the mobile call records shared by the investigating agencies.

He was arrested in January under the provisions of the Information Technology Act 2000 and sent to judicial custody, said police sources.
