Bangalore: School principal borrows girls' pillows, dances drunk

June 29, 2014

Bangalore, Jun 29: Mallikarjun Swamy, 52, principal of Kittur Rani Chennamma Residential School in Yellammana Palya, Anekal taluk, Bangalore Urban district, allegedly suffers from a perversity. He can't sleep till he rests his head on a pillow borrowed from a girl student.

School principal

The principal has other outrageous traits too. After a few pegs, Swamy and his aide Karthik would break into dance in the corridors of the girls' hostel before retiring for the night. The girls' school simmered with discontent as most students, their parents and staffers were upset over the principal's behaviour. He allegedly harassed the girls to part with their pillows, bedspreads and blankets, saying they helped him dream.

Swamy reported to work in May. In just a month, resentment had built up over his alleged actions. On June 20, the parent of a girl student filed a complaint with Anekal police, accusing Mallikarjun Swamy and Karthik of misbehaving with his ward. News of the duo's odd behaviour spread and locals pressured police to take action. Anekal police summoned Karthik and warned him.

On Thursday, things turned serious as TV channels beamed footage of Swamy and others consuming alcohol inside the hostel premises and dancing with abandon. Anekal police arrested Swamy and Karthik. Investigating officials claimed that Swamy's mobile phone had photos of several girl students.

Bangalore Rural SP Ramesh Banoth said they would speak with parents and students to know more about the accused.

According to parents, Swamy didn't have a good relationship with either the students or parents. "My daughter called me in the first week of June, saying the principal behaves strangely with girls. She told me 'he borrows bedspreads and pillows from the girls and clicks our photos on his mobile," a high school student's father said.

The mother of another girl alleged that Swamy chided her daughter without reason. "One day, he borrowed her pillow, saying he gets 'romantic dreams' if he sleeps on it," she said.

"He often drinks in the evening and loiters near our rooms. Earlier, we enjoyed our evenings sitting in the verandah and reading. Now we lock ourselves up," a student said.

School staffers confirmed the principal has been a nuisance. "Nothing good is happening here. Most of us are on contract and those who raise their voices face pay cuts," a staffer said. Swamy stayed in Yellammana Palya with his wife and college going daughter. Police invoked sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, 2012.

Noida, Jul 28: A doctor admitted at a private hospital in Noida has been accused of sexually harassing a patient in his isolation ward, where both were undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the police said.

The 20-year-old woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the incident took place on Monday and based on that a case was filed at the local expressway police station, they said.

A senior police official said an investigation is underway and there might be lapses on part of the hospital which allegedly admitted a man and a woman in the same isolation ward, in violation of the norms.

The woman and the doctor had tested positive for coronavirus last week, according to officials.

"The woman was in the isolation ward of the private hospital. There was a man, a medical practitioner, who too was infected with coronavirus and was sharing the ward with her," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said.

He said the woman alleged molestation and upon being informed, the police immediately lodged a case and initiated a probe into the matter.

"There appears to be some irresponsibility on part of the hospital too. We are communication with the medical departments to check whether the patients were being kept in accordance with the guidelines," Mr Singh said.

He said the accused is still in isolation but the police will reach out for his statement following due protocols of COVID-19.

"All necessary action will be taken as per the truth that will emerge after a thorough investigation," Mr Singh said.

Pratapgarh, Jun 2: In a shocking incident, a young man was tied to a tree and set afire by the family of a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh late on Monday night.

The man, 25, was a resident of Bhujauni village under Fatanpur police station, and he died on the spot.

Enraged over the incident, his family members and local people turned violent and set two police vehicles on fire.

Additional forces were rushed in to control the situation that remains tense.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Pratapgarh, Abhishek Singh, "Some people barged into the house of Ambika Patel and dragged him away. They then tied Patel to a tree some distance away and set him on fire after sprinkling petrol on him. They fled immediately after." Agitated family members and villagers assembled at the site and set a 112 police response vehicle (PRV) and another police jeep on fire. They were demanding immediate arrest and action against the accused.

Tengnoupal, Jan 21: A woman IPS officer has alleged that a rifleman of Assam Rifles physically assaulted and molested her at a check post near Moreh town in Manipur's Tengnoupal district, police said on Tuesday.

Based on a written complaint of the IPS officer, an FIR has been registered against rifleman P K Pandey and a summon has been issued to him to appear before the concerned police station, the police said.

Manipur DGP L M Khaute told reporters on Monday, "We have made contacts with the Assam Rifles authorities. A complaint has been lodged by the officer." In her complaint, the IPS officer said that on reaching Khudengtabi check post on Sunday afternoon one of her escorts, who was not in uniform, told the frisking party of Assam Rifles to register their entry.

Despite showing their identity cards, the rifleman allegedly detained them, she said.

"We offered to search ourselves and the vehicle, but he was not interested", she said.

The rifleman began hitting the official vehicle and "misbehaved, humiliated, harassed and assaulted me and my escort personnel," she alleged.

The IPS officer also alleged that the rifleman molested her and when her escorts tried to intervene, he thrashed them.

She further accused the rifleman of making "sexually coloured" remarks against her, using abusive language and even tried to snatch her phone when she tried to call her senior officers.

The issue was brought under control after the matter was reported to the Brigadier of 26th Assam Rifles and the Major of the D-company of 12th AR, police said.
