Bangalore University split into three universities

Bengaluru, May 26: The Karnataka Cabinet has approved amendments to the Karnataka State University Act in order to split the Bangalore University into three. The boundaries of the new universities will be based on Legislative Assembly constituencies.

Currently, more than 600 degree colleges are affiliated to Bangalore University. The three parts that the university would be divided into are: Bangalore University, Bangalore Central and Bangalore North.

Sources in the State Secretariat said that while the Bangalore University would continue to function from its Jnana Bharati campus, the new Bangalore Central University would be located at Central College campus in the City.

The campus of Bangalore North University would be located at Jangammana Kote in Sidlaghatta taluk, Kolar district. For the time being, the Bangalore North University would commence functioning from its Post-Graduation Centre in Kolar.

Each university is expected to have 200 affiliated colleges. All the three universities would include teaching and research activities.

The Bill related to splitting Bangalore University three-way, is expected to be passed in the State Legislature session that is likely to be held in July.

Mangaluru, Jul 12: Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.

He was suffering from fever since the last few days and today his swab results came out positive.

He is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city and his condition is stated to be stable.

Bengaluru, Feb 6: Karnataka government has launched an aggressive awareness campaign against the novel coronavirus across the state with a special focus on its bordering areas in wake of the three confirmed cases of the deadly pathogen in neighbouring Kerala.

According to Health Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey, "All necessary information on the virus, its symptoms and precautions are being announced at public places like bus stops via radio from time to time."

“A video regarding the same is also being played in 500 cinema halls, advising masses to take precautions," he said.

Kalaburagi, Mar 14: Delivering its judgment within a period of three and half months, a court here on Friday awarded death sentence to a man, who was a convict in the rape and murder case of a minor girl.

The Second Additional District and Sessions court in Kalaburagi sentenced Yallappa to death in the matter.

"The convict, had on December 2, 2019, taken the minor victim behind an Angwanwadi centre in Yakapur village. He raped the girl, murdered her and ran away," special public prosecutor LV Chutnalakar told media.
He said that the body of the girl was recovered around 10 pm on the same night.

"The investigation in the matter was taken up after a complaint was filed by the parents of the victim. The police conducted a speedy probe and filed a chargesheet, after which the conviction and sentence were pronounced," Chutnalakar said.
