Mangaluru, Feb 7: A young Muslim cleric feared drowned while crossing a river at Sangabettu village in Bantwal taluk last night.

The victim has been identified as Mohammed Afreedi (23), who was working as a cleric at a mosque in Muger, near here.
Search is on by the firefighters and local residents for the body of the cleric in the river.
The cleric had to pass through the river to go Gaadipalke to Iruvail. While crossing the river he lost balance and feared drowned, sources said.
A case has been registered at Bantwal rural police station. Several political leaders and activists visited the spot on Sunday.
